She sat on the edge and by the left side of the bed—the one close to the large windows that gave her an ethereal view of the red sun and bloodied sky. Oni moved behind her, preparing tea and setting up what she was supposed to eat for lunch. She slept the whole morning and woke up feeling exhausted despite the many hours of sleep she had. Her body no longer burned or itched like before. Everywhere seemed calm and peaceful, but her mind was a troubled storm.
She was so captivated by the view that she did not notice the king enter the room and he was shocked not to see his mother in there with her. The maid assigned to his bride quickly acknowledged his presence by bowing.
His eyes wandered around, still confused by the absence of his mother.
"Where is my mother?"
"She stepped out a bit not quite long ago to attend to some issues, Your Majesty," Oni answered with her head still lowered to the ground.
His eyes then caught sight of the cart lying close to her.
"What's that for?"
