"Yasaka-nee…?"
Under the gentle glow of moonlight, Bokue felt a brief moment of surprise—but not enough to let it show on his face. Instead, he calmly walked over, quietly seating himself cross-legged beside the beautiful fox-tailed woman on the soft tatami mats.
Barely had he settled himself when Yasaka leaned forward eagerly, unable to hold back any longer. Her delicate nose brushed close, inhaling softly.
"Returning so late… Just where have you been all day, hm? Kunou waited for you eagerly at the shrine the entire day… and this scent… You've clearly bathed elsewhere before returning. And there's even a faint trace of another girl's scent lingering on you…"
Well, that was perfectly understandable.
After all, Bokue had teleported straight from Itogami Island without a moment spent traveling on the Shinkansen, meaning there was no chance to shed any extra aromas.
Prior to returning, he'd briefly chatted with Yukina—unfortunately timing his teleportation exactly when she'd been showering—but the majority of the day had been spent with Asagi. They'd been stuck together so tightly that if they weren't cuddling, they were headed straight toward more cuddling—and even their brief transitions between locations had involved their bodies intertwined.
Like making their way from the second-floor bedroom down to the first-floor bathroom in a rather acrobatic fashion.
Even their final moments before parting had been spent affectionately lounging together on the sofa.
In short, if Bokue hadn't stopped briefly at Yukina's steamy bathroom afterward, the scent on him wouldn't just be "faint"—it would be unmistakably intense.
"I'm feeling rather hurt, you know~"
Noticing Bokue's silence, Yasaka inched even closer.
All nine of her fluffy golden fox tails curled gracefully to one side, becoming like a luxurious sofa cushion that gently wrapped around his back. She tugged him close, until their bodies were intimately pressed together.
The elegant fox-tailed beauty lowered her head slightly, slender, artistically painted fingertips softly caressing Bokue's cheek. Her voice was soft, sweetly inviting as she whispered gently:
"You finally came back for summer break… so why are you still running off elsewhere? Are you truly so busy?"
"Indeed—busy, in every possible sense of the word."
A golden fox-tail brushed past his cheek, tickling Bokue's nose slightly. Unbothered, he smoothly scooped Yasaka up, boldly placing her onto his lap and gently wrapping an arm around her slender, well-proportioned waist beneath the delicate kimono.
"Not only did what I expected come to pass, but something completely unexpected occurred too. Today, I originally traveled to Itogami Island strictly for business—but ended up bumping into Asagi."
"Asagi…? Ah, the little girl who used to love playing games with you when you were younger?"
Instant realization dawned on Yasaka's lovely face, quickly followed by curiosity.
"If memory serves, that particular girl didn't get along too well with Irina, right? They didn't end up arguing, did they?"
"I made sure they didn't run into each other," Bokue calmly explained. "Irina and Xenovia went ahead to the Underworld through the 'port' with Rias and the others earlier today. I only met Asagi afterward."
"Ah, I see."
Yasaka nodded gently, thoughtfully wrapping both arms around his neck.
"Still, there was another girl I recall you being quite close with back then—a short-haired, tomboyish brunette who often played together with you and Irina."
"…Yuuma Tokoyogi?"
Bokue thought carefully for a moment.
"Yuuma… I'm honestly not too sure. Since returning, I haven't seen her even once. Then again, I never really knew exactly where she lived, so I guess we weren't all that close."
"I understand. So… what about your 'business'?"
"Ah, right—about that…"
It was only now that Bokue realized he'd strayed off-topic for quite a while.
"The Fourth Primogenitor. Have you heard of her, Yasaka?"
"Fourth… Primogenitor?"
Yasaka blinked her golden eyes slowly, clearly bewildered—exactly the same reaction Bokue had when he first heard the name.
At the end of the day, youkai and vampires were fundamentally different beings. Most youkai originated as animals that trained until gaining humanoid forms or becoming supernatural creatures. They were beings native to the human realm. Vampires, conversely, were much closer to devils—entities associated more with the Underworld. Hence, the two races rarely interacted closely.
"I was informed by someone from the Lion King Organization early this morning," Bokue explained, tightening his embrace slightly around Yasaka's waist. "Apparently, the Fourth Primogenitor has been revived. Given she's the world's strongest vampire, if she ever goes berserk, the potential damage would be catastrophic. Someone needs to keep an eye on her… or something like that. Honestly, the details aren't totally clear to me either."
"And you went there yourself?"
Yasaka blinked those captivating eyes again.
Bokue tilted his head up slightly, taking in the intoxicating fragrance at her graceful neck as he responded dryly:
"What else was I supposed to do? Someone has to handle this, especially since she appeared precisely at Itogami Island. Among all of Japan's strongest exorcists, onmyōji, and Jujutsu Sorcerers, who else but me could confidently keep a true Primogenitor under control?"
He paused thoughtfully, then continued:
"Though, if I'm being completely honest, the main reason I bothered was because she appeared on Itogami Island specifically. Had she shown up somewhere in Africa or Europe, I doubt I'd have gotten involved. But if something happened causing Itogami Island to sink… Tokyo would be wiped out too."
Given that Itogami Island was an enormous artificial island just a few hundred kilometers from Tokyo, built entirely from carbon fiber, resins, metal, and magic-enhanced structures, if something happened to cause it to sink… even disregarding whether the elders sitting comfortably within the Imperial Palace would tolerate such destruction, the resulting tsunami would drown Tokyo itself.
"I suppose that's true," Yasaka acknowledged gently, her breathing becoming noticeably heated. Clearly, her patience was quickly wearing thin.
Bokue adjusted her position slightly, turning her around to face him directly, their bodies intimately close.
As Yasaka's soft lips slowly descended towards him, Bokue murmured softly against her warmth:
"But based on my initial observation today, we might still need to wait and observe further. Honestly, after meeting her in person, it's hard to imagine such a cute young girl truly being the Fourth Primogenitor."
"…Young girl?"
Suddenly, Yasaka paused slightly, as if triggered by a certain key phrase. Her voice carried an unexpected note of alertness.
"Something like that. I met her today—she's still in middle school, actually," Bokue replied casually, not giving it much thought. "But it was indeed peculiar. She hardly gave off any vampire aura. She even does normal things like shopping, cooking, eating normal human foods, as if completely unaware of being a vampire. Either the Lion King Organization made a mistake—or perhaps she's some kind of reincarnated youkai who hasn't awakened yet."
"A reincarnated youkai, huh…"
Yasaka straightened slightly, thoughtful.
"What is it, Yasaka?"
Looking up at her, Bokue found her lovely chest half-exposed under the moonlight, her elegant expression distant, deep in thought. Her alluring lips still glistened softly with moisture.
"It's nothing," Yasaka smiled faintly, seeming to shake away whatever memory had briefly surfaced. With a swift, elegant flick of her fingers, she cast an enhanced soundproofing barrier across the room, and then, without further hesitation, moved forward passionately once more.
"Mm—! After all this settles down… promise me you'll visit Kunou more often, understand?"
