[Chapter 305: Migras's Death 2]
This was the closest high-rise building to Helen's oceanfront villa. From the rooftop of this building, there was an unobstructed view towards Helen's villa, at a straight-line distance of less than 200 meters, making it the ideal sniper position.
The two men emerged from the hallway and climbed to the highest platform. They shut the only entrance gate and secured the door handle with a steel pipe they had prepared beforehand, ensuring it couldn't be opened from inside.
Messy went to the rooftop platform and began assembling the sniper rifle and attaching the scope.
Hook took out a military-grade binoculars and acted as Messy's spotter.
On the east side road of the oceanfront villa, three cars arrived, two of which stopped by the villa entrance. The middle car, a Mercedes, turned straight into the villa gate.
Hook observed that side carefully through the binoculars.
The car drove directly in front of the villa. At the entrance stood a stunningly beautiful young woman. She happily walked towards the car.
Messy raised his rifle and aimed through the scope, the barrel moving in sync with the Mercedes.
Hook said, "The car stopped!"
Messy's finger was on the trigger. From his height and angle, he was able to aim at the side of the Mercedes facing the villa.
...
The Mercedes door opened, and a bodyguard in the front passenger seat got out to open the rear door.
Migras got out and looked towards Helen, who was walking fast towards him.
Helen was obviously carefully dressed, wearing exquisite makeup and a sexy dress, very alluring.
They hadn't seen each other for a week, and Migras was eager and burning with passion as he hurried towards her.
...
On the rooftop, Messy and Hook kept their eyes on the scene.
As soon as the target's body fully emerged from behind the Mercedes's cover, it fell right into Messy's scope.
Hook raised the binoculars and timely said, "Shoot!"
At the sound of his voice, Messy pulled the trigger.
Hook saw through the binoculars as the bullet hit the target's forehead exactly, a deadly shot.
He put away the binoculars and shouted, "Go!"
...
At the villa entrance, Helen opened her arms to embrace her lover after days apart.
Suddenly, Migras' head exploded, dropping silently, blood and brains splattered all over.
The gunshot was just heard then.
The bodyguard shouted, "There's a shooter..."
Migras was lying on the ground, his consciousness fading. He could no longer feel his body.
"Linton Anderson," he tried to say, but his mouth wouldn't open and the words stayed trapped inside: "Linton Anderson, Linton Anderson..."
Only endless regret filled him now -- regret for letting greed cloud his mind and regret for not heeding Tasker's advice.
What surprised him most was Linton's patience, waiting over six months to take action.
But soon, his consciousness sank into endless darkness.
"Ah..." Helen realized what happened and let out a piercing scream.
The bodyguard took out a radio: "The chairman has been shot! I repeat, the chairman has been shot! Gunfire from the northwest direction!"
He hid behind the bulletproof Mercedes, glanced at the headshot Migras, judged him beyond saving, and looked up quietly towards where the shots came from.
There was a six-story building; the shooter must have fired from the rooftop.
The bodyguard shouted again on the radio: "Shooter on the rooftop of the northwest building!"
Outside, a Ford Mondeo turned a corner, heading that way.
The bodyguard took out a cellphone and dialed 911 to report the shooting.
After the call, he crouched beside Migras to confirm he was truly dead.
"Fuck," the bodyguard was enraged seeing his employer dead, grabbing the radio and shouting, "Catch them, don't let them escape!"
...
On the apartment rooftop, after the gunshot.
Hook stored away the binoculars and jumped off the platform shouting, "Go!"
Messy quickly disassembled the still-warm sniper rifle; with swift motions, he broke the rifle into parts and packed them and the shells into a backpack.
Then he jumped down and followed Hook, running toward one side of the building.
The building's first floor had an iron fire escape; they quickly ran down the stairs. Upon reaching the second floor, Hook flipped a switch, and a fire elevator lowered down.
He slid down the fire escape to the ground and helped Messy down.
...
In the courtyard of the fire stairs, a normal Ford Mondeo was parked. Alcy sat in the driver's seat, Sigmar in the rear behind the driver, and the front passenger seat was facing the fire stairs for Messy and Hook to get in quickly.
Messy and Hook hurried over and jumped into the front and back seats respectively.
Alcy stomped the gas, driving fast away from the oceanfront villa to another street.
The Mondeo turned onto the street, merging into traffic and disappearing from sight.
...
Meanwhile, a car that had been escorting the Mercedes sped to the apartment entrance.
Three men got out, showing pistols as they rushed inside.
The leader shouted, "One with me to the elevator; the other take the stairs up!"
But it was too late. When they got upstairs, the hallway door wouldn't open. They finally forced it open to find the rooftop empty.
These bodyguards were experienced and quickly found where the shooting happened. Based on faint footprints on the rooftop, they realized the shooter escaped via the fire escape.
Chasing down the stairs to the fire escape, the alley led to two streets east and west, busy with cars, leaving no sign of the shooter.
At that moment, police sirens blared and multiple police cars rushed into the oceanfront villa.
San Francisco police received the shooting report and sent the nearest patrols immediately.
But nothing could change Migras's fate.
...
The Mondeo entered an underground parking lot and stopped in a secluded corner. Messy and Hook changed their clothes and shoes, then switched to a business car parked there, heading towards the California State Route 1 to Los Angeles.
Along the way, Messy and Sigmar each made a call, both saying the same thing, "Mission accomplished."
Then they threw their discarded clothes, shoes, gun parts, and binoculars into the sea in several rounds.
Arriving in Los Angeles, they headed straight to LAX.
At the airport, Messy and Hook got off, retrieved two packages from the luggage storage where they had stored luggage before.
They bought tickets for the next flight to Africa, planning to transfer in South Africa and proceed to the overseas military base in Ethiopia.
Meanwhile, Alcy and Sigmar drove straight to Mexico, preparing to fly from there to Paris for a vacation. They planned to contact Danny and return to Los Angeles a month later.
