Kate snorted and finally wriggled free enough to bop him on the head. "Stop it, you big dufus. I am right here, okay." She leaned forward and pecked his cheek, again hugging him. "I am right here and I am not going anywhere."
She put her arms around Damon's neck and looked into his eyes. The crimson eyes might be new, but they were also the same pair of warm and kind eyes that she had known all her life. Her lips parted to say something when Mark stirred awake with a loud groan.
Kate instantly pushed away from Damon, faster than a cat on caffeine. She spun around so quickly that she nearly tripped over her own feet.
Mark, still groggy, sat up and squinted at both of them. His voice was hoarse. "I feel so damn weak and tired. Can we just go back to sleep?"
Kate laughed in a weird, high-pitched way. "Maybe we need some blood." She joked.
Damon nodded. "You are probably correct."
"Huh? What?" Kate snapped to look at him. "You don't mean… you are serious?"
