Looking at the Game Field in my hand, I fell into deep thought. It was a bowl-sized sandbox that, when I held it, allowed me to change everything inside: the environment, life, rules... literally everything.
This gave me a lot of interesting ideas. I could create a 5-on-5 MOBA, a massive 11-on-11 soccer match, or even a 1-versus-99 battle royale. I could also make a 1-on-1 auto-chess game, but with real people as the chess pieces.
The possibilities were endless. Imagine the Marines versus the Pirates in a 5-on-5 tower-pushing game.
Whitebeard and Fleet Admiral Sengoku fighting in the top lane.
Kizaru and Phoenix Marco dueling it out in the middle.
Foil Vista and Smoker sneaking around as junglers.
Aokiji and Flying Squirrel on the bottom lane against Diamond Jozu and Izo.
Of course, the combat power in the game would be different from reality. I'd confiscate everyone's abilities and only give them average speed and physical endurance.
They would have to earn money by killing enemies and then buy weapons and Devil Fruits from a shop. Just thinking about it got me excited. I couldn't wait to see how the War of the Best would look with this new twist.
As I was fantasizing, Luffy suddenly rushed over. "Ikki, what's that fun thing you're holding?"
I smiled. "This is a Game Field; wanna play?"
Hearing there was something fun to do, Usopp, Mr. 2 Bon Clay, and Chopper all gathered around. I looked at the horizon and saw we still had a long way to go before we hit the sea, so I agreed.
"Alright, three people at a time can come with me." I decided to have them play a battle royale. It's simple and easy to learn. Of course, the abilities of Luffy and Mr. 2 would be gone, leaving them with only basic human physical fitness. It had to be fair, or winning wouldn't be fun.
"Me! Me! I'll go first!" Luffy yelled, raising his hand.
"I wanna play too!" Chopper shouted, raising his hooves.
Hearing the commotion, the other Straw Hat crew members also came over, all interested in the new toy. Seeing that so many people wanted to play, I said to Kakashi, "Kakashi, leave a clone to watch the ship with Karoo and the other duck. Everyone else can play."
"Quack!"
"Ke da ke da!"
The two ducks protested. They wanted to play, too. Since the Game Field could change anything, I thought about it for a second and let them join.
"Okay," Luffy cheered.
I began to transform the Game Field. It looked like a giant battle royale map, with the basic weapons and gear from the game I used to play. For the first round, I chose an individual match.
I had already instilled the basic rules of the game in everyone's minds, but with a crew of idiots, it was better to let them try a few solo rounds first to get the hang of it.
After I finished the setup, a black and purple energy enveloped everyone, including Kakashi's clone. I was surprised by how powerful the game was, but I didn't have time to worry, as the game had already begun.
As soon as I entered the game, I pinched myself. I then touched the grass on the ground. The texture and realism were exactly the same as in the real world. "Wow! This is so much more amazing than any virtual reality game!"
Soon, the countdown [5][4][3][2][1][Start] appeared above my head. We were instantly transported to a transport plane. Luffy and Mr. 2 were shouting and yelling; it was definitely their first time on a plane, and the realism was just too much for them.
"Quiet down!" Nami yelled, raising her fist. "I can't even enjoy the scenery in peace!"
"Hey! Nami, you're so boring! We were just floating in the sky before! We have to look at the scenery now?" Luffy said.
"Yeah, yeah! We're supposed to be having fun!"
Just then, the plane's hatch opened. Luffy jumped out without a word. Not to be outdone, Zoro followed him. I was speechless. I wondered if Zoro would get lost and die from poison outside the safe zone.
Probably not. With the mini-map, he shouldn't be that bad with directions, I thought to myself.
After them, Nami, Vivi, and Robin, who had all previewed the rules beforehand, jumped out and landed at the center of the safe zone. I was the last to jump. I knew which part of the map was the best. Of course, this wasn't cheating. I had just played the game for hundreds of hours.
After Luffy landed, he perfectly parachuted to the ground. Unfortunately, he had landed in an endless prairie with only a single toilet. "Huh? I remember there was a big house here," Luffy muttered to himself. He walked into the toilet and grabbed a frying pan and a Level 1 helmet. With his gear, he ran towards where he thought the house should be.
Zoro's situation was much better. He landed in a housing area and was fully kitted out with a Level 2 helmet, Level 2 armor, a fully upgraded M4, and a 98K. After leaving the area, he killed two AI players. But of course, he was walking in the direction that was outside the safe zone.
I was searching for gear on my own when the kill feed in the top-left corner started to pop up. Chopper, Karoo, and Mr. 2 had all been killed by the AI. Sanji was killed by Captain America. The others were still alive.
They're definitely having fun, I thought. I had just gotten some great gear when a bullet hit me and destroyed my helmet.
"Haha... I've been waiting for you," Kakashi said. He had been lying in wait for a long time. Kakashi had figured that wherever I jumped would have the best gear, so he landed a little earlier, found a 98K, and waited for me to show up. His first shot took off my helmet, and his second took me out.
And just like that, my first game ended.
