"You don't have your powers anymore," Damien said. He stopped walking, forcing Morvakar to face him. Their eyes locked, vampire king to broken sorcerer. Morvakar only nodded once, stiffly, a proud man refusing to articulate his own ruin. The nod was confirmation enough; Damien felt a punch of dread in his chest. "There must be something in your books, Morvakar. This is risky. What are they supposed to do with her to keep her from danger? Lock her in a vault somewhere?"
