Chapter 2 - chapter 2 Not as planned

The wolf queen scowled as he mocked the choice to execute him in the rain. True it was a bother but executions always happened in the rain as was tradition. It washed away the blood, masked the sounds of cries and overall, the overcast sky was better for her people who didn't have as much tolerance to the sun as a human did.

"Wolves don't mind the rain." She replied. Then she lifted her sword. "For the theft of the power of the alpha, I sentence you to death, wretched human. May you rot in hell for eternity for what you have done." Her voice carried out over the crowd for all to hear.

Retsu looked up at her as the sword was coming down to his neck, what was this power of the alpha he had stolen? Wait a minute! He needed to understand! He hadn't stolen anything like that! And then his eyes met hers and the sudden feeling of shock and fear filled her eyes as she screamed in terror and then everything went black.

Ziiiiiiinng!!!!

The Luna fell to her knees shrieking as the human's blood splattered on her white robe and hands and face.

The people were shocked. What was wrong with her? Why was she upset?

She was inconsolable as she threw her sword aside as if she had been burned. "No! No! No!" She shrieked. Her guards stepped in to help but no one knew what had gone wrong. She had done executions before and never had she been traumatized by it.

But now she was consumed with some sort of regret that no one could understand. She held the human's head back on him as blood spilled out and all she did was scream.

"Fix it!!!" She screamed "fix it! Fix it!"

"My queen!" Her beta, the closest guard to her exclaimed, "what is wrong?"

"Fix it! Fix it! Fix it!" Was all she could say.

And then she picked him up and ran screaming from the square. Trying to hold his head on as if it would fix anything. The human was dead and it's not like she didn't know it but the one word that flashed in her mind as she made eye contact with the boy was quick like a whisper from her wolf. "Mate."

A werewolf could only have one mate in their lifetime.

She had searched all of the kingdoms for her mate for 500 years, and never met him and then she had killed him, but why would he be a human?

If she didn't figure something out, she too would die. They say a werewolf is immortal unless they are separated from their mate. Then they begin to age rapidly. She might only have a year left to live. If only they hadn't made eye contact. No, -that wouldn't have helped. Even if he was accross the universe, once he had died she would have begun aging. That was why it was so important for her to find her mate. To protect each other.

She rushed him to the hospital screaming "fix it! Fix it! Fix it!" As she burst through the doors. The hospital was for werewolves, they could usually heal any wound. They had even regrown a limb on a soldier before, though that was a very dangerous procedure, as it had drained nearly all of his life force to achieve. Did this human even have any life force?

The shocked doctor didn't know what to think but he quickly rushed her into a room and she placed her mate on the table as if she was placing a little baby on a table instead.

There wasn't time for him to ask what happened. He had known that the human was going to be executed today for consuming the queen's most valuable possession. As the Luna, she had put half of her magic into an object, a mushroom that was meant to be consumed by her mate when he became the alpha. Only her alpha had never been found and the mushroom went nearly forgotten by everyone but her.

The object then ended up missing one day. She had chosen a mushroom because she figured it would go unnoticed. Only her beta knew what it was. But he was with her when it vanished. And then, this human ate it!

The doctor knew this because the human became public enemy number one. The Luna didn't hide her outrage that someone had the alpha's powers and it wasn't even a werewolf. She tried so hard to find out how he had known about the object. But after ten years of torture, he hadn't cracked. That was what her beta told her. She hoped by killing him the power would return to her, and she could just make another one. No luna or alpha had ever lost their vessel before. She didn't know if it would work. Now she wished she had met him before she killed him. Even just once she would have known that fate had actually solved her problems!

"Please!" She plead to the doctor, "fix him!!!!" Now she was sobbing.

The doctor and her beta were bewildered by her sudden outburst and tears.

"I'm so sorry!" The doctor exclaimed, "but you see, humans are fragile and they can't be fixed…"

"Ahhhh!!!!!" She wailed louder, throwing herself over his dead body, "please! He's still warm!"

"My Luna!" Her beta said stepping forward, "please explain what this is all about! He's just a thief…"

"-he's my mate!" She shouted at him cutting him off.

Then everyone who was nearby evesdropping on their conversation because it was loud and everyone had good hearing to begin with was shocked.

"This means the Luna is going to die?" A little girl exclaimed loud enough for the Luna to hear.

Her mother yanked her behind her as if it would quiet her down but she had already said it, what was on everyone's minds. "Shhhh!!!" The mother pleaded to her daughter.

But the Luna simply picked up her dead mate that she hadn't even gotten to meet yet before she lost him and carried him back to the pack house without another word. She had wrapped him up in a blanket. He was so small in her eyes, it was as if she carried a baby.

The members of the pack just stared at her as the doors closed behind her. Now the rain was like gloomy tears.

It also always rained at a funeral. She thought to herself as the words of her lover she never knew echoed in her mind. "Why bathe me if you're just going to kill me?"
