Chapter 512: Just a Passing Competitive Trainer
A Legendary's moves are on a completely different level from an ordinary Pokémon's. The move Eruption is something a Torkoal can learn, but even a captain-level Torkoal can only manage a single pillar of fire that covers half a stadium. What Groudon had just summoned was an entire sea of fire.
Flames erupted from the ground like geysers, instantly shattering the fighting spirit of the Silph Co. security forces. Such an enemy was a walking natural disaster, making any thought of resistance futile.
And yet, in that moment, a man and a dragon soared against the tide, rising into the sky. Facing the Legendary, they charged forward without fear.
"Now!" Arthur seized the opportunity. Even a Legendary had to obey the natural law of cooldowns; they couldn't just spam their ultimate moves.
"Old Flame, Dragon Claw! Lina, get above it!"
Old Flame, having completed a Dragon Dance, was incredibly fast. It flew in from the side, aiming for Groudon's head. As it got close, it swung a ferocious claw at the side of Groudon's face. This was the pride of a Champion's Pokémon. Not even a Legendary could intimidate it.
"ROAR!"
Groudon turned its head and roared, but all it saw was a rapidly receding red light. The moment the hit landed, Arthur had recalled Old Flame, giving Groudon no chance to counter-attack. The Poké Ball—humanity's greatest invention, without a doubt.
Seizing the opportunity as Groudon's attention was drawn to the side, Lina soared into the air, quickly climbing to over a hundred feet, passing over Groudon's head. Then, Arthur leaped from Lina's back, his target the center of Groudon's forehead.
"Sword, come! Doublade, use Slash!"
Descending from above, like a silver meteor. As Arthur landed on Groudon's forehead, he plunged both swords deep into its facial armor.
"ROAR!!"
A pained roar, so powerful it whipped up a gale of wind and sand. Groudon's attention was now completely drawn away from the fleeing Silph Co. team and fixed on the human who had wounded it.
Since he now knew that the Silph Co. team were just pawns and not the masterminds, Arthur didn't mind saving them if he could. Some Champions spoke of false righteousness while plotting the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Others never spoke of such grand ideals but had already left their mark on history.
Arthur hadn't yet met the Sinnoh Champions of this era, but what he was doing now was sure to shake these devious juniors to their core.
He pulled out the swords, bringing a spray of hot blood with them.
"Oh my god!"
Below, everyone, including Skarner, who was watching the battle, stared with their mouths agape. Had a mere mortal really just wounded the nearly hundred-foot-tall god of the land?
"Who is that on Groudon's head?!" a passing Silph Co. security guard asked in horror.
Skarner replied with a deadpan expression, "Just a passing competitive trainer from the Kubfu Alliance."
"???"
The guard looked at him as if he were insane.
But at that moment, Arthur, standing on Groudon's head, was not as optimistic as the people below. "The cut is too shallow." This was probably the first time since he had arrived in this world that he felt his own damage output was insufficient while holding his sword.
In its Primal Reversion form, Groudon's scales had also become much harder. In this form, all of its stats were enhanced. Aside from not being able to fly, it was now the undisputed strongest on land.
Arthur didn't dare to linger on its head. After striking, he immediately pulled out his swords and leaped into the air. "Lina!"
Lina dutifully dove down to catch him in mid-air. The rebellious little dragoness and Arthur were becoming more and more in sync. It seemed she was well on her way to following in her father's footsteps.
But even after being caught by Lina, Arthur's sense of danger did not subside. After countless battles, he had learned to never doubt his instincts. And counting the time, Groudon's cooldown should be about up. The gap in power between a Legendary and an ordinary Pokémon was all-encompassing, and that included cooldowns. Theirs were much shorter than an ordinary Pokémon's, rarely exceeding five seconds, even for an ultimate move.
The moment he sensed the danger, Arthur reacted. "Lina, use Dragon Tail on me!"
He decisively leaped from Lina's back, crossed his arms in front of his chest, and had Lina hit him with Dragon Tail. The powerful move sent him flying, allowing him to dodge Groudon's second attack: Eruption.
The Fire-type move: Eruption. It spewed a wide area of scorching smoke. Anyone caught in it for too long would be inflicted with a burn. With Groudon's massive size, the range of its moves was also amplified. With one breath, the smoke spread for dozens of meters. If Arthur hadn't reacted in time and had Lina hit him, they would never have been able to escape the range of the attack just by flying.
Within the thick smoke, a series of explosions could be heard, accompanied by flashes of orange light. A Legendary's moves were universally stronger than an ordinary Pokémon's. Groudon's Eruption not only had a large range but also contained continuous, high-temperature detonations. This was not damage a human body could withstand. That had been a true life-or-death moment.
In mid-air, as his momentum slowed, Arthur quickly recalled Lina, who was still in the smoke. At the same time, Old Flame dove down to catch him.
Even after that near-death experience, Arthur's fighting spirit was not diminished in the slightest. He tossed his sword aside. "Doublade, use Swords Dance!"
His descending strike had revealed his lack of damage output, so he needed to buff up. Lina and Old Flame were his crucial air support; neither of them had time to retreat and buff. So, Arthur communicated with Specter through his thoughts. "Specter, another Nasty Plot! Tell me when you're ready!"
On the ground, Specter nodded grimly, closed its eyes, and began to chant the second Nasty Plot.
Even in a life-or-death situation, even while dancing with death, Arthur had no intention of giving up. His mind was clear, his commands incessant.
So what if it was a Legendary? So what if it was the strongest on land? This was not the first time he had faced such pressure. Fire and smoke would not break his will to fight.
