Chapter 301 - The Broken Lock

"So, like I said, Miluo and I weren't just lazing around all day! We were totally dominating!"

Inside the elevator, Millie was still making a rather useless attempt to justify taking Miluo to the arcade for the entire day.

Dominating?

Alain could already imagine it: Millie would get home, only to be utterly 'dominated' by his darling Misha.

Then Millie would get an earful from Misha, plus a workbook of exercises as punishment.

The little girl's mouth twitched as she looked at Millie's younger sister, Miluo. Her small hand couldn't help but clutch the corner of Alain's clothes.

"Sir Knight, you have to protect me later!"

She recalled Misha's usual gentleness, which made the terror she inspired when one made a mistake all the more striking.

It was the kind of terror that could smile and say, "Go copy the 'Three Hundred Tang Poems'..."

Alain glanced at Miluo, slightly surprised. The kid was pretty smart, actually knowing to seek his help.

Unlike his "good buddy," who would just talk tough in front of Misha and always end up getting banned from games for a day.

"Alright, alright, I'll protect you." Alain patted the little girl's head.

"Hey, you little brat! Are you betraying me?" Millie glared silently at the girl.

"No way. Big Sister Millie is too unreliable. Anyway, if you try to argue your way out of it, you'll definitely drag me down with you!"

Miluo thought of something, shivered, and gripped Alain's hand even tighter.

Alain could tell that the two of them had a genuinely good relationship.

Or rather, the three Mitas at home all got along quite well. Their personalities were different, but in essence, they were all the "Lawful Good" type.

Ding—

The elevator doors opened. Ahead in the hallway was the silhouette of a young woman carrying bags big and small, stopped in front of their apartment, struggling to fumble through her pockets.

Seeing this, Alain quickly walked over to Misha and took the heavy load from her.

"Ah, darling, thank you."

Misha sighed in relief when she saw him.

Looking past Alain's back, she then saw the other two who had just stepped out of the elevator.

Her eyes narrowed dangerously. A chill of unknown origin filled the hallway.

"Oh! Ahahahaha, best friend! We're here to help too!"

"Millie too, Millie is a good girl! Millie is super obedient!"

The two Mitas, one big and one small, hurried over and tacitly took the bags.

With her hands now free, Misha was able to pull out her key smoothly.

"Forget it..." His darling didn't seem to plan on making a fuss.

Her gaze focused on Alain before glancing behind him.

"Where's Miffy?"

"She went back."

Misha looked thoughtful but didn't ask any more questions.

The two guilty Mitas exchanged glances but didn't dare ask about Miffy's situation.

Alain looked at the large bags Misha had bought. The packaging was delicate and bulky, so they weren't heavy.

But Misha had still bought many of them, which was why the young woman had been struggling so much just to get her key out earlier.

He was puzzled for a moment. "By the way, what is all this?"

"Bedding," she said curtly. Then she realized it was too blunt.

"Not that kind of bedding! Don't get the wrong idea, darling."

"..." Alain was silent for two seconds.

To think that he had worked day and night to protect Misha from being brainwashed by such corrupting knowledge. And yet, she still unconsciously spouted such vulgarities...

"Who on earth was the bad influence? It has to be Millie."

"But still, why did you buy so much?"

Alain looked at three particularly large bags, which he presumed contained quilts.

Misha, meanwhile, was struggling to insert and remove the key, speaking without turning around. "Because, in the future, lots of Mitas will definitely come to the real world. This is just getting everyone's daily necessities ready in advance. Besides..."

She pulled out the key, observing the serrated grooves on it. After confirming there was no issue, she inserted it into the keyhole again.

She grunted softly, jamming her key into the lock, but the keyhole didn't budge an inch, like a stubborn rock.

"Hm?" She looked up at the door number in confusion. 203... that's right, isn't it?

She tried for a few more minutes, finally stopping when she let out a confused sound.

"It won't open?"

"No, it's too stubborn. You don't think the lock is broken, do you?" Millie rubbed her stiff shoulders and silently sidled up to Alain.

At that moment, he had just finished massaging Misha, only to see the cap-wearing girl very deliberately turning her back to him.

Alain gave a wry smile and began to knead Millie's shoulders with both hands.

"Good work, my good buddy."

"W-what are you doing? My best friend is watching..."

Although she said this, she closed her eyes and began to enjoy it.

Misha was giggling sweetly nearby, showing no signs of jealousy.

As for Miluo...

She watched the two of them, the one giving the massage and the one receiving it, and a fire lit up in her big eyes!

Trying to unlock the door + failing to unlock the door = a massage from Alain!

This equation took root in the little girl's mind.

"I-I want to try too!"

Without waiting for Alain's permission, she fumbled in her pocket and jangled out a keychain with a little rabbit charm.

She stuck it in the lock and tried for over a minute before finally admitting defeat.

"No good... I can't open it either."

The girl strolled leisurely over to Alain and presented her back to him as well.

Sure enough—a second later, a relaxing sensation spread across her shoulders.

So this is... Sir Knight's massage? It feels so good...

Miluo felt like she was about to melt into a puddle.

Meanwhile, Alain glanced at a mischievously smiling Misha, who was now massaging the little girl, and a thought began to form in his mind.

He checked the number on the door, 203, then looked at the panoramic window along the hallway.

The greenery and buildings outside were all a familiar sight.

Without a doubt, this was their apartment.

But none of their three keys worked... Could it be that the realtor had changed the lock?

Were he and the three Mitas going to be sleeping on the street tonight?

Alain remembered the realtor's name was "Monika," and his expression darkened.

He let go of Millie, gave her hat a customary playful tug, and decided to walk over to the door himself and take out his own key.

Unsurprisingly, it was useless.

The lock clicked twice, and the key, turning clockwise, met with an immovable resistance, getting stuck.

Alain looked at the hand he'd used to insert the key, a hint of surprise in his eyes.

It wasn't because he had failed to open the door. The reason was—

The dark green ring he wore on his ring finger was emitting a dim glow.

"?"

A drop of cold sweat trickled down Alain's forehead.

He had never seen the ring light up in the real world. The reason was simple—

The ring's function was to point the way to the correct version path. And "version" referred to a game version.

But he was in reality right now...

Alain swallowed hard.

Misha, following his gaze to his hand, also realized something was wrong and silently took something out of a shopping bag...

A collapsible baton.

The baton was entirely black, with the price tag still attached.

The young woman shielded Millie and Miluo behind her.

Although the two didn't understand the situation, they also helped in any way they could.

Millie took out the game controller she always carried and connected it to Alain via Bluetooth.

Miluo held a "Go for it!" at the ready, prepared to cheer at any moment.

Everyone exchanged a silent glance.

Alain took the baton, tore off the tag, held it horizontally in front of him, and stared intently at the lock.

He gave up on dealing with the lock and chose the simplest method—pushing the door.

He gently pushed the door forward. As expected, it opened with ease.

Alain opened the door a crack and bent down to peer inside.

"...Tch."

As expected, the world inside the apartment had changed. It had grown wild in an unforeseen direction.

Inside, it was no longer their simply-furnished, European-style apartment, and the good lighting no longer reflected the city lights.

Instead, it was a Mita's room.

His gaze shifted to the panoramic window in the hallway. The night was as black as ink.

He looked back at the room inside the door. The daylight was like fine gauze.
