Chapter 5 - new era started

The LuxeTech headquarters shimmered like a promise of tomorrow in the midst of Gotham's swirling nighttime fog. Rows of ornate lanterns lined the steps, casting deep golden pools that set the new glass-and-steel doors aglow. Above the entrance, the LuxeTech insignia—a silver winged serpent—looked down, bold and unmistakable.

Rowan stood at the top of the steps, poised in a tailored suit, a welcoming pillar of calm control as the city's most powerful gathered. The invitations—delivered on heavy cream card embossed with silver—had summoned Gotham's luminaries: the Waynes, the Kanes, the Cobblepots, the Elliots. Not all who mattered could attend in this era; the Luthors, it was whispered among the guests, had not yet cast their shadow here.

Inside, velvet ropes cordoned off displays of advanced LuxeTech prototypes. Silver trays bore hors d'oeuvres, while jazz drifted from a small stage.

Rowan greeted each guest by name, the picture of poised nobility. When Thomas and Martha Wayne arrived, hand in hand, they drew a ripple of attention. Rowan inclined his head to them.

"Doctor Wayne, Mrs. Wayne, I'm honored you could join us. Please—enjoy tonight. Gotham stands on the edge of something remarkable."

Martha smiled, warmth in her eyes. "We wouldn't miss it, Mr. Rowan. Your reputation is already citywide."

The time came for Rowan to address the assembled guests. He stepped beneath a spotlight, His crimson eyes glowing faintly as he spoke:

"Ladies and gentlemen, tonight, LuxeTech offers a glimpse of a brighter, more connected Gotham—a city unbound by yesterday's limits. Some say the world changes only slowly. I believe every generation should dare to leap."

Silk-draped tables unveiled as staff withdrew the covers in a single, fluid motion. Gasps broke out at the sight:

A compact camera, light and rugged, able to capture more of life's detail than any offered before.

A LuxeTech personal computing machine, mechanical, fast, and astonishingly reliable—a marvel for scholars and accountants alike.

A "portable office": LuxeTech's bulky but mobile laptop, ushering in work done anywhere, not just in grand offices.

And at the end: a palm-sized communications device, crystal-screened, able to call, message, and store private notes—decades ahead of Gotham's technology.

Reporters from the Gotham Gazette hustled closer. "Is it really… portable?" Evelyn Kane ventured aloud.

Rowan handed her the device. "Its secrets are as safe as mine, Miss Kane," he said with a sly smile.

Throughout the night, city leaders, business tycoons, and the Waynes gathered around Rowan. Thomas Wayne listened intently, asking precise questions about the technology's potential for hospitals and clinics; Martha remarked on how the communication device might help connect orphanages across the city.

By the next morning, the story of LuxeTech's launch was splashed across every paper:

"A New Gotham Dawns: Rowan's LuxeTech Stuns City with 21st Century Science." LuxeTech's products sold out quickly, spreading through Gotham's professional class and then, by train and post, to distant cities.

Beneath the glamour, Rowan retired to the hidden vault deep beneath LuxeTech, slipping off his ring and gazing at the dormant alien ship—his true kingdom, hidden from anyone's gaze.

He traced a calendar, silently noting the approaching year: Martha Wayne was glowing with early pregnancy—soon to bring new hope into Gotham's world. Far away, a faint signal pulsed—a falling star gathering toward Earth, yet unseen. Rowan marked these milestones in his mind. The world's real legends were nearly ready to begin.
