Although it was morning, the sky outside was grey. The snowstorm was quiet but violent.
This was the third day of the snowstorm. Rhaëlya stared at Azrakai as he prepared breakfast, Carmen clinging to her like a koala but Crypt was nowhere in sight.
"Where's Crypt?" She asked the tiger, her voice still laced with sleepiness.
Azrakai didn't look up right away. He was crouched by the fire pit, carefully rotating skewered cuts of meat above the low flames, the scent of dried herbs and roasted flesh heavy in the air.
His grey eyes flicked toward her after a second. "He left early."
Rhaëlya blinked slowly. "...Left?"
Azrakai only gave a quiet grunt of confirmation.
Carmen made a disgruntled sound, her head nuzzled against Rhaëlya's shoulder.
"That idiot. I bet he's out there sniffing rocks or something snake dumb like that."
Rhaëlya's lips tightened into a thin line.
It wasn't anger that made her exhale sharply, it was worry. The storm wasn't normal.
