"Not coming back?"
"There's no time."
"How long will you be gone?"
"About a week, I think."
"Oh, alright. Be careful on the road."
"This trip came up suddenly, so I have to leave in a hurry. I'll make it up to you when I get back."
Qin Miaomiao couldn't quite figure out whether she was angry or feeling something else entirely.
"Honey, I want to tell you something."
"What is it?"
"I..."
There was a loud noise on the other end, drowning out everything she was saying.
"What did you just say? Say it again."
"I said I... Forget it, I'll tell you when you're back."
She hung up the phone, staring out through the floor-to-ceiling window. It was almost New Year, and outside, another thick layer of snow had fallen.
She loved the snowy scenery. Lying on the bed, watching the snow, she pondered how to plan the days ahead. She'd heard the first three months were risky, so everything had to be carefully considered.
