Ji Wei staggered out of the bedroom. The bright, glaring lights outside made her squint as she looked at the empty, carpeted hallway. She suddenly didn't know where to go.
After standing still for a long while, she slowly lifted her gaze to the door of the children's room next door.
The thought of An An's rosy, chubby little face made her nose tingle. Ji Wei bit down on her lower lip until it turned pale, desperately holding back her tears. Then, taking a deep breath, she walked over and pushed the door open.
The children's room was quiet, illuminated only by a small moon-shaped wall lamp. In the warm light, An An lay peacefully asleep in his tiny wooden crib.
A thin little blanket covered him, his chubby hands and legs stretched out as he slept soundly in a prone position.
The little baby breathed softly, his serene sleeping face a picture of tranquility and beauty.
