Chapter 68: The Born Schemer of a Rotten Snake, I'll Personally…
With the speed of a Title Douluo, the distance from the Dugu Estate to the city gate wasn't far.
Even though Dugu Bo was feeling a bit anxious and had deliberately slowed his pace, he still arrived at the agreed upon spot rather quickly.
Looking around, he didn't see Guang Ling anywhere. He let out a sigh of relief but also felt a little disappointed.
This isn't my fault, Yan Yan, he thought. It's just your bad luck.
"Looking for me?"
Just as he was about to turn back and inform Dugu Yan of the outcome, a familiar voice rang out from behind him. Who else could it be but Guang Ling?
Dugu Bo's body stiffened momentarily before he quickly recovered and turned around. Sure enough, Guang Ling stood there with a smirk, eyeing him playfully.
"You scared the life out of me! Sneaking up behind someone and suddenly speaking aren't you afraid I'd reflexively throw some poison at you?" Dugu Bo rolled his eyes in exasperation.
"With your strength? Ha."
Guang Ling didn't continue, but the meaning was clear. Few words, but maximum insult.
Having spent the past two days around him, Dugu Bo had learned to understand Guang Ling's frequency. His hands clenched into fists before he slowly released them.
Forget it. I can't beat him. And I have something to discuss. Stay calm, he told himself, trying to soothe his wounded pride.
"Alright, out with it. What do you need from me? It's not even the agreed upon time yet. If I hadn't seen you heading this way, you would've made this trip for nothing."
"And your awareness is pathetic. I followed you the entire way, and you didn't notice. How can I trust you to protect Xiao Li in the future?" Guang Ling scoffed, taking the opportunity to belittle him further.
"I was thinking about something."
Dugu Bo retorted weakly, then quickly changed the subject.
"By the way, I need to ask you something. Can we bring my granddaughter along when we return?"
He carefully observed Guang Ling's reaction.
As expected, the moment Guang Ling heard this, his expression darkened instantly. His piercing gaze locked onto Dugu Bo.
"You told your granddaughter everything?"
Dugu Bo saw how strongly Guang Ling reacted and quickly explained, "No, no, I didn't. I only told her that I was going for treatment. As for Han Li, I only shared what I was allowed to. Don't forget I swore on my martial soul."
Hearing this, Guang Ling's expression eased slightly, but he still kept his sharp eyes on him.
Dugu Bo hurriedly continued, "I told her about the poison in our martial souls. Yan Yan got worried about me and wanted to come along."
"I figured that since she'll also need treatment later, and she'll have to learn about martial soul evolution eventually, it's better to bring her along now. This way, we won't have to go back and forth and risk exposing anything."
"Besides, I've already pledged my loyalty to Xiao Li. My only granddaughter will follow me regardless. If you're worried, she can swear on her martial soul too. And don't forget didn't we already talk about letting them meet? Wouldn't it be good for them to interact early on?"
At the end of his words, Dugu Bo even gave Guang Ling a sly wink.
Guang Ling looked at him with undisguised disgust.
Good? Good my ass.
When we discussed this before, I hadn't considered Xiao Xue yet. Now that I have, do you really think I'll just let this happen?
No way. I need to sabotage this.
With Xiao Xue's personality, it's fine if she gets along with Xiu'er. But if she learns that Xiao Li has multiple partners, that's never going to fly.
Should I just refuse outright? No, that's not good either. Xiao Li clearly values this grandfather granddaughter duo, and I still need Dugu Bo as his bodyguard. It wouldn't be wise to push too hard.
And what if Xiao Li and Xiao Xue don't work out in the future? I still want grandkids to spoil!
This rotten snake is naturally sinister, trying to set me up like this…
Dugu Bo, I'm remembering this.
Watching Guang Ling's constantly shifting expressions, deep in thought, Dugu Bo suddenly felt a chill down his spine.
He wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but it seemed like Guang Ling was looking at him with even more disdain than before.
???
Several large question marks popped up in Dugu Bo's mind.
What's wrong with Guang Ling? Why does he look like he's having an episode? This is a simple yes or no question.
You were all excited when we talked about Han Li's fiancée earlier what's with this reaction now?
Guang Ling exhaled deeply, then looked at Dugu Bo again.
"Fine. Bring her. But she's your responsibility. Don't let her cause trouble for Xiao Li."
"Great! No problem!" Dugu Bo happily agreed, not paying much attention to the warning.
"Then hurry up. Don't make me wait. Once you get back, we're leaving immediately." Guang Ling waved his hand, signaling for him to leave.
"Got it!"
Dugu Bo left immediately, rushing back to tell Yan Yan the good news.
Guang Ling, on the other hand, found a shady spot to sit and began contemplating his next move.
I really fell into that old snake's trap this time…
Meanwhile, Dugu Bo quickly returned home, only to find Dugu Yan already packed and waiting at the gate, anxiously glancing down the road.
"Grandpa!"
As soon as she saw him, she ran up excitedly, clinging to his arm, eager for his answer.
"It's fine. They agreed. We'll be leaving soon."
Dugu Bo smiled as he reassured her.
"Yay! So, Grandpa, can you tell me now where we're going? And who this person is?"
Dugu Yan let go of his arm and skipped a few steps ahead, turning around to walk backward as she questioned him.
"No. I swore on my martial soul. You'll find out by tonight at the latest. No more questions."
Dugu Bo shut her down immediately. He didn't want to keep Guang Ling waiting too long who knew if that guy would change his mind again?
"Alright, alright."
Dugu Yan pouted but quickly recovered.
More than anything, she was excited. Not only would she and her grandfather finally get treatment, but everything was shrouded in mystery just like an adventure in a storybook.
That anticipation alone made her push all other thoughts aside.
"Ugh, Grandpa, hurry up!"
Now, she felt like he was walking too slowly. Running behind him, she pushed against his back, trying to get him to move faster.
"Alright, alright. Whatever Yan Yan says, Grandpa will hurry up."
Dugu Bo laughed and picked up his pace.
"Oh, by the way, Yan Yan, make sure someone notifies the academy. Tell them I'm taking you for special training. Let's start with a month's leave if we need more, we'll extend it later."
"Got it, got it. Just go inside and check if I forgot anything. We can send someone to notify the academy before we leave it won't take long."
"And pack more practical clothes. The environment there is nothing like home or the academy."
The two of them walked into the house, their voices carrying out from within as they continued chatting.
