I kept staring at him. And he stared back at me—until his face started breaking into a smile… and then a full-blown motor laugh, with his finger pointed at my face.
"You should see your face right now," he said.
"The way your eyes are shining bright at me... God, close those eyes, you're gonna kill me with that illumination."
But I was still stuck. I wasn't laughing. I didn't even know how to move.
"Hey, I'm just joking. Can't you take a joke?" he said as he lightly tapped my shoulder.
He was still laughing but I didn't see anything funny about this.
"Hey… It's a joke… are you upset? Are you mad? You know what...Whatever I said..."
He started correcting himself.
"Hey, wait, okay, I'm sorry, I was just joking. Really. I mean....the way I know Caesar, I expect this is how he's going to react. If you tell him you're gonna ditch him and go to your friend's party....it won't end well. I mean, he sees himself as God's greatest gift to women, and I don't know...."
