I couldn't believe her.
I couldn't believe this woman.
What the hell was she thinking? And that.... what she said. What was that? Was it just rage-talking? Or did it mean something? Because even if it was just anger, who says something like that?
I stood there, frozen, trying to process the words she'd left behind. My brain raced in every direction at once. Maybe I should call Jasper. Maybe it's time for him to do a full background check on Casey. Not because I don't trust her but because something's off. There's something she's hiding, something big.
Because if I really am the only man she's ever slept with… why did she say what she said? Why did it feel like she was choking on a truth she didn't mean to reveal?
I caught myself getting worked up, my heart pounding in my chest. I walked back to the register, grabbed the stupid bag of stuff I'd bought, and headed to the car.
And God, I was an idiot.
