Chapter 205 - 205. Researcher

While the team was sleeping soundly, a man was walking towards Cannibal Island, unbeknownst to them, on the bottom of the sea. With a small bag on his shoulder and a broad smile on his lips, he hurried towards the mountain, on top of which, as his species indicated to the mainland, an island had formed. This small island was the scene of his obsession.

This particular undersea-walker had always had a curious spirit and had been experimenting with all kinds of things since he was very young. The undersea-walker named Llyr was considered a child prodigy from a young age. He could read and write at an early age and even understood politics as easily as if he had drunk it with his mother's milk.

However, young Llyr's curiosity was not long held back by bureaucracy, and by the time he was appointed as a councilor to the mayor of his town at the age of seventeen, he was as bored with it as children are bored with listening to adults' conversations. So, although his career was slowly rising to greater heights, Llyr turned his curiosity towards a new area.

Many strange and extraordinary species live in the depths of the sea, some of which people up there would not dare to dream of. At first glance, it may seem that a person could not have found a better hobby than learning about deep-sea animals, but this was not the case with Llyr. It took the young researcher only five years of his life to learn everything there was to learn about marine life.

At that time, he was assigned diplomatic duties not in his own small town, but in the capital of the undersea-walkers, in the city called Oldüjár by the hegins, or Oltyhar in their own language. Then he was given the highly honoured post of Minister of Foreign Affairs. It was the first time Llyr had left the sea and visited the sky.

A new world had literally opened up to him when he was to visit the city built on the sea that was allied with his people. It was just a simple business meeting. Llyr didn't even have to speak to Mukei Vietryk, a living legend according to the undersea-walkers, but instead he only had to negotiate with the city's mayor. But this left the young man indifferent.

The mysteries of the new world occupied his thoughts much more. Returning to the sea, his heart and curiosity pulled him to the surface again. After much pleading, he finally managed to get the undersea-walker leader to give him a month's leave to do what he wanted. Thus Llyr took to the paths running under the sea and reached the island where he was just now heading.

A place called Cannibal Island by the people above. The undersea-walkers called it Black Coral Mountain because of the corals growing on it and warned their children against the place. Sharks often lived among the corals, which did not like to be disturbed. However, Llyr learned how to approach these creatures, so they did not hurt him.

His original plan on his first visit was to climb to the surface through the corals, so that he could see for himself what the peak of Black Coral Mountain was like up there. However, as he was looking for which side he could climb the mountain from the easiest way, he came across something interesting. A cave that led into the mountain.

In any other case, Llyr would have ignored the cave, he did not like narrow and dark places, but this cave was not narrow at all, what is more, down at the bottom of the sea, it could not even be called dark. A multitude of luminous algae covered its walls and as such attracted Llyr's attention. That is why the young researcher decided to venture inside.

He himself did not know how long he spent in the cave, going deeper and deeper, but suddenly he found himself with his head sticking out of the water. He blinked heavily when he saw the room he had arrived in. The walls of the huge room were covered with shining crystals and in the direction he was looking, a strange yellowish light filtered into the cave.

Excitement completely permeated Llyr and he almost rushed out of the water. He was up there, he felt the air become denser around him than he was used to. However, this only made him happy. That was his plan, to get up there and see the world. He hurried enthusiastically towards the yellowish light and soon ran out into the sun. He had to cover his eyes for a few minutes to get used to the light, but he made it.

Llyr was not lazy and immediately saw to work. The first thing he did was to explore the island, to see how big the place was and what kind of creatures there were on it. During this exploration tour, he ran into his first nyiumgyi. Or rather, the nyiumgyi ran into him, because the slime creature, barely the size of his forearm, ran straight at him.

This incident was what started Llyr on the path of his new obsession. He found out that there were many more such creatures on the island and they completely enchanted the young researcher. During his first trip to the island, he made friends with the nyiumgyis that lived on the island, but when he wanted to take one home with him to the sea, he had to realize that the nyiumgyis could not live in the depths of the sea.

Others might have been discouraged by this discovery, but it only spurred Llyr on to find a solution to the problem. When he returned to Oltyhar, he looked into everything related to the ability of his own species to live underwater. He decided that he would definitely bring a nyiumgyi down to the depths of the sea with him.

And so began his research work, in addition to his work as a scientist. Llyr carried out several foreign policy missions, traveled the seas of the whole world, but he always took time to go up there to his little friends and experiment with them. Over the years, he also built himself a hut on the island so that he could spend more time among the nyiumgyis.

During his research, he discovered that if you feed the creatures different things, they gain different abilities. And the little nyiumgyi he ran into on his first trip eventually moved into the cave, where he always waited for Llyr to return from under the sea. That little nyiumgyi later became the one that the island was named Cannibal after by those above. As a result of one of Llyr's experiments, the little nyiumgyi became a cannibal.

Although centuries of research had passed, he still had not found a way to take the nyiumgyi under the sea, but he continued to research every year. Even if his companions in the depths of the sea had been referring to him as Crazy Llyr for about three centuries, he did not pay attention to them. His enthusiasm was still as strong today as the first time.

He came up to the island again to continue his research. It was only for a long weekend, as there had been big problems down there recently, but he could not miss the opportunity. He just didn't expect that when he was heading towards his hut, he would see a stranger standing in front of the hut and staring at him.
