The two warriors were just ordinary soldiersâno divine power, no holy light, and certainly not as strong as Skorch.
Their swords slashed down fiercely, but all they managed to do was chip a few pieces of rubble off the creature. They failed to cause any real harm to the one-horned demon.
With a roar, the demon shook off the residual effect of the Rock Mark and lunged forward, seizing the ankle of one of the warriors.
"Ahâ!"
The soldier cried out in horror as he was dragged beneath the earth, vanishing without a trace.
The massive rocky hand extended from the ground again.
Seeing their attacks were useless and watching their comrade disappear in an instant, Fairwind and the others scattered in terror. Yet another was caught, dragged under, and met the same fate.
"Ah ah ah!"
Fairwind stumbled toward a nearby wall, cornered and screaming as he stared at the ground before him.
"Where's the demon?!" Rowe shouted, sprinting closer.
"This! Here! Below!"
Fairwind pointed frantically.
"He's beneath me! He's right under my feet!"
The monstrous stone hand erupted from the earth once more.
But this timeâRowe was ready.
At the critical moment, he unleashed the Hand of Reckoning, radiant holy energy crashing down onto the concealed demon.
The rocky hand froze mid-motion. Fairwind scrambled away.
As the demon's hand retracted into the ground, Rowe quickly chugged his Potion of Swiftness and Potion of Agility, stacking the effects with the lingering Blessing of Kings.
His speed surged to its peak.
"Fairwind! Keep tracking him!" Rowe called out.
Fairwind, breath ragged, adjusted the perspective with the enchanted device.
"Directly aheadâhe's right in front of you!"
Rowe's eyes locked forward, scanning the cracked battlefield.
"Left! He just turned leftâwait, no! It's your right! My leftâyour right!"
Fairwind stammered, clearly rattled.
Rowe spun in place, sweating from the tension.
Suddenly, the rocky hand burst from the rightâaimed squarely at him.
Empowered by potions and blessings, Rowe barely reacted in time.
He raised Verigan's Fist and, with a mighty swing, brought down the Hammer of Punishment.
Boom!
A blinding burst of holy light exploded on impact.
"Argh!"
The one-horned demon howled, its hand mangled by divine force.
The ground quaked violently. Rowe took a cautious step back.
With a furious growl, the one-horned demon surged from the ground.
As it emerged, earth and rock swirled around it, forming jagged stone armor. It now resembled a grotesque golem, encased in earth and pulsing with rage.
"I'll drag your soul to hell myself!"
The demon's voice trembled with fury. The Hand of Reckoning had clearly provoked it.
BOOM!
It charged like a boulder fired from a catapult.
Rowe sidestepped the rush with his enhanced agility, swinging Verigan's Fist in a fluid arcâ
Hammer of Justice!
The hammer struck the armored shell. Shards of rock flew, but the protection held firm. Worseâthe stun failed to activate.
The rock absorbed too much of the shock.
A retaliatory punch came with crushing force.
BOOM!
Rowe raised the Crimson Commander's Shield just in time. The impact sent him flying. Pain shot through his arm.
The demon roared again and charged.
Rowe gritted his teeth and adjusted his tactics.
This wasn't about power anymore. This was about precision.
He moved like a blur, weaving through the battlefield, focusing every strike on one weak spotâthe lower back, where the stone armor was thinnest.
Over time, the focused assault paid off.
One final Hammer of Justice landed cleanly.
"ARGHH!"
The demon shrieked and collapsed, stunned.
Rowe seized the moment, raising Verigan's Fist and delivering two consecutive Hammers of Punishment to the back of the demon's neck.
The third strike didn't land.
Just as he raised the hammer againâthe demon sank into the earth and vanished.
Moments later, it erupted back to the surface.
But this time it was sluggish, clearly weakened.
Its stance wobbled. The armor looked brittle.
Those last strikes had taken a serious toll.
Rowe trembled. He was exhausted.
His divine mana was almost gone. Without the Holy Light, he couldn't deal real damage anymore.
"Suffer and die!" the demon howled, charging again.
Rowe had no choice.
The Blessing of Kings, Swiftness, and Agility were all gone. He was running on fumes.
BOOM!
The stone fist struck Rowe squarely, sending him flying again. The demon didn't relent.
BOOM!
Another brutal punch. Rowe hit the ground hard, coughing blood.
He staggered to his feet.
Behind him loomed the ruins of the Warner Protoss palace, limiting his movement.
"You're finished," the demon sneered.
"Taste the blood in your mouth. Feel your body tremble. You'll soon be a lost soul, screaming in torment, shackled to me in the pits of hell!"
It raised its fist for the final blow.
BOOM!
Rowe raised his shield. Flames licked his armor as he braced against the descending fist.
The clash resembled Steve Rogers vs. Thanosâraw willpower versus overwhelming force.
"It's over!" the demon roared.
Thenâfrom the skyâ
A black-haired, middle-aged man dropped like a meteor, his hand slicing down like a blade.
He struck the demon's shoulder with divine force.
BOOM!
The demon's arm was severed at the joint.
Blood sprayed wildly.
"TYR!" the demon shrieked, staggering back.
It was Tyr, the God of War of Asgard, and father of Heimdall.
Rowe gasped in relief.
"Lord TyrâŠ"
"It's rare to see someone survive this long against the Earth Demon," Tyr said gruffly, brushing his hair aside with a nod of admiration.
The Earth Demon snarled and tried to flee.
Tyr dashed forward, leaping and delivering a spinning kick.
Though he carried a sword, Tyr was known for hand-to-hand combat.
His divine abilityâSteel Bodyâmade his flesh as hard as enchanted iron.
According to legend, his superhuman toughness made grooming nearly impossibleâhence his wild, unkempt appearance.
BOOM!
"ARGHH!"
Tyr's foot shattered part of the Earth Demon's armor, slamming it into the ground with enough force to create a crater.
In a fair fight, the demon might've held its ground.
But after the extended battle with Rowe, it was already spentâno longer able to defend itself.
Just as Tyr moved in for the finishing blowâ
A troll leapt in, blocking his path.
"Tyr," the troll growled. "This fight isn't finished between us."
Then he turned to the Earth Demon.
"Old Demon. Brought down by a child? Pathetic."
The demon clutched his stump.
"If this were Hellâ"
"Spare me the excuses," the troll snapped.
Grimacing, the Earth Demon fled.
Tyr scoffed and launched himself at the troll.
Their blows clashed with such force that shockwaves radiated outward, forcing Rowe to stumble back several steps.
Rowe didn't dare stay longer.
But before he left, his eyes fell on the severed arm of the Earth Demon.
He hesitatedâthen picked it up and ran.
