"Quick, stop this group of Marines! We must hold them off and ensure that Captain Charlotte Linlin and Captain Shiki can assist Captain Rocks!"
"Everyone move! The final victory in this battle belongs to the Rocks Corps!"
"Captain Rocks will definitely lead us to dominate the world! With him at the helm, we'll bask in endless glory and wealth. We must push ourselvesâstop the Marines at all costs!"
The cries echoed across the shattered battlefield of the Valley of the Gods.
As a wave of Marine elites surged toward Charlotte Linlin and the Golden Lion Shiki, the core pirates of the Rocks regiment burned with renewed fury, clashing violently to stop the advance.
Just then, a chilling glint pierced Rocks D. Xebec's gaze as he turned his eyes sharply toward the sky.
Charlotte Linlin floated calmly above him atop Zeus, arms folded, a twisted grin spread across her face.
"Linlin... Shiki... are you coming to aid me now?" Rocks asked coldly.
"Ma~mamamama... Captain Rocks, I'm afraid we really can't help you," Charlotte Linlin replied mockingly, reclining on Zeus as Prometheus hovered beside her like a miniature sun.
Had Linlin truly joined forces with him at this crucial moment, they could have overwhelmed Roger's forces, especially with Ayr still battling Kong, and Garp preoccupied with Rayleigh. But she had no such intention.
Her true aimâlike many of the othersâwas clear.
She wanted Rocks to die here, in the Valley of the Gods.
She wanted the old era to endâand for the new age of emperors to rise.
The atmosphere froze for an instant. Rocks' eyes narrowed, filled with a killing intent sharp enough to split steel.
"What did you say, Linlin?"
Rocks had long grown suspicious of the loyalties of his crew. But hearing it confirmed like this, plainly and without remorse, sank his heart like an anchor dropped into the abyss.
The rage that surged in him now threatened to burn the heavens.
"Jihahahahaha... What I said wasâCaptain Rocks, our purpose here is to make sure you die," Shiki the Golden Lion laughed, his blades gleaming at his hips.
If Rocks were at his peak, Shiki would never have dared speak such words.
But now, battered from the siege of Roger's crew, his Conqueror's Haki flaring and fading, his Rinnegan glowing dimly and his body riddled with cracks from overusing his Devil Fruit and Sage Body fusionâit was clear even to Shiki.
Rocks was reaching the end.
Even if the whole of Roger's crew wasn't needed, Shiki was confident he could deal the final blow now.
Thus, he no longer feared Rocks D. Xebec.
And for the first timeâhe spoke without chains.
Across the battlefield, the entire clash between pirates and Marines paused, like time itself had stopped.
Everyone turned their gazes to the Golden Lion and Rocks.
"What... what did he just say?"
"Did Shiki just imply... they want their own captain to die here?"
"You heard it too?"
"No doubt about it... Shiki of the Rocks regiment just declared that they want Rocks D. Xebec to perish!"
"What is going on? Are the core cadres refusing to support their captain?"
Among the Marine elites still locked in skirmishes with John, Silver Axe, and Ochoku's factions, confusion spread like wildfire.
At first, they thought they'd misheard.
But soon, all came to the same terrifying realization.
The Rocks piratesâtheir own core officersâwanted their captain dead.
Which left the Marines with a question burning in their minds:
Why were they even trying to stop Linlin and Shiki anymore?
For a moment, many stood there, stunned, uncertain whether to keep fighting or step aside and let the cannibalism unfold.
"You..."
Even Garp, still clashing fists with Rayleigh at a distance, paused. His eyes widened, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly in disbelief.
"Shiki... do you wish for death?" Rocks growled, his voice trembling with fury.
Though Rocks had known betrayal lurked in the hearts of men, he had not expected such blatant rebellionânot in the middle of the battlefield.
No matter how much he reined in his fury before, his rage now erupted like a volcano.
"I suggest you worry more about saving yourself, Rocks," Shiki replied, arms folded, floating calmly with his gravito-telekinetic Devil Fruit lifting the debris around him. "Don't you understand the battlefield? You've lost. You're finished."
"Captain Rocks, we're grateful you helped us rise to fame and fortune," said Captain John, appearing from behind a smoldering ruin. "But your ambitions are too big. You wanted the world... and we want it too. That means you're in the way."
Each word John spoke felt like a dagger to the back of the man who made them legends.
Rocks had always promised wealth, dominion, and strength.
And in the beginning, that's what brought these monsters together.
But when his goal shifted from plunder to global conquestâwhen he sought to challenge Imu and the World Nobles themselvesâthe others quietly distanced themselves.
They had no desire to be kings under another tyrant.
"Captain Rocks," added Silver Axe, wiping blood off his blade, "your very existence is the wall that blocks us from becoming rulers ourselves. So, forgive us... we're cutting that wall down."
Even with their cruelty, even with their bloodlust, they acknowledged one thing:
Rocks was a god of the old world.
And gods had to fall.
If his ambitions were lesser, perhaps they could have coexisted.
But with his strengthâespecially with his mastery over the Rinnegan, his Black Susanoo, and his rumored immortality experimentsâthe world was too small for more than one king.
Their response was cold. Their betrayal final.
Rocks' expression twisted. Betrayal was one thing. But betrayal at the edge of deathâwhen your enemies were closing in?
It was something worse.
It was mockery.
His laugh erupted wildly, echoing through the battlefield like a mad storm.
"HAHAHAHAHA!! After all these years ruling these seas, this is how I fall?"
He was furious. But more than that, he was... empty.
There was no one left. No allies. No saviors.
He was alone.
Cast aside by the very monsters he created.
Once, he had looked down on the world from aboveâcommanding Linlin, Kaido, Whitebeard, Shiki, and the rest like chess pieces. He fought Garp, Roger, Kong, and Dragon without fear. He had Ayr on his shipâAyr, a child who had awakened the Rinnegan and possessed a Sage Body more refined than the Uzumaki.
In his youth, he believed no one could stop him.
But now?
Now, he was no longer the king of monsters.
Now, even his monsters had turned on him.
And worseâthe Marine hero Garp, the World Government commander Kong, and the Pirate King Roger were all still standing.
With a final chuckle, his voice hoarse and dripping with venom, Rocks turned his head.
On the horizon, Ayr was still clashing with Kongâhis black chakra surging in waves, his Susanoo shattering mountains.
Rocks' eyes lingered there, on the only creature who might carry his legacy forward.
Perhaps... it wasn't all lost just yet.
