Miri's Pov
Riven was kissing someone.
Not Caius—he was right beside me, I could feel the tension rolling off him like static, his gaze tracking mine toward the same spot. No. It was Riven, our Riven, his painted face unmistakable in the dim glow of enchanted lanterns. And his mouth was on someone else's.
For a second, my body forgot how to function. My throat closed up, my stomach turned to lead, and the floor beneath me felt like it had been yanked away. Betrayal was an ugly, raw thing—it burned through my chest before I could even think.
And before I knew what I was doing, my feet were moving.
I walked toward them, my Mystique heels clacking sharply against the floor. My pulse roared in my ears, but I couldn't stop. Couldn't even think. The crowd seemed to blur away until it was just me, Riven, and the girl he had chosen to kiss instead of… instead of me. Instead of us.
