Kael's pov
From the rooftop, the whole battlefield unfolded before me like a slow, violent storm. Wolves howled as they clashed teeth and claws with the rouges we'd sent. Magic burst from the center of the fortress—flashes of violet and blue from the coven members, lacing through the air and striking down withering enemies. Fires danced across some of the buildings now, the ones I'd marked. Smoke drifted upward, curling into the pale sky like black ribbons if they could wave surrender.
But there was no surrender here. Not for them. Not for us.
I crouched lower, resting my elbows on my knees as I stared down at the chaos below. Despite the odds, they were holding. Holding too well.
