The energy started building, Pulse Shred kicking in first. The air around my arm shimmered as kinetic force layered over muscle and bone.
The air turned heavy.
Toru took a step back. "Uh, is it just me, or does this feel…"
"Like a bad idea?" Jirou muttered, watching the ground crack slightly under my feet.
Sero whistled. "Alright, this is looking kinda serious."
The energy peaked. I moved.
One step, then another, then a final burst forward, launching the strike. My fist cut through the air, and the shockwave tore free.
A tiger. Massive. Ethereal. Its shape carved from raw energy, flames licking its outline as wind pressure howled in its wake. It slammed into the far training wall, and the explosion ripped through stone like wet paper.
The explosion rattled the entire damn field.
The impact didn't just crack the wall. It tore through it, a deep, jagged hole left in the stone. The force rippled outward, kicking up dust and heat, the leftover energy fading into embers before vanishing completely.
Silence.
Aoyama, looking like he just watched a crime happen, clutched his chest. "Mon dieu." (My god)
Sato let out a low whistle. "That was a hell of a punch."
Izuku blinked. "We were supposed to dodge that?"
I stretched my arm, letting the last bit of energy fizzle out. "No one is dodging that."
Mina grinned. "Hell yeah! That is what I wanted!"
Todoroki eyed the damaged wall. "That is not a small attack."
"Yeah," Kirishima muttered. "That would've sent anyone flying."
Bakugo clicked his tongue. "Tch. Not bad."
Kaminari was already pulling his phone out. "Man, you should've let me record that!"
All Might finally spoke, clearing his throat. "That was… impressive. However-" He pointed at the hole. "I did say not to destroy the training ground."
I shrugged. "I said I would try."
Toru whistled. "I think that move just broke some laws of physics."
Shoji crossed his arms. "That kind of range makes you a threat from a distance. Close combat isn't your only strength anymore."
Mineta, for once, didn't have a pervy remark. He just muttered, "I am glad I am not fighting him."
Yaoyorozu studied the remains of the shockwave. "That level of energy dispersion… That is not an easy attack to control."
"Control is not the point," I said, rolling my shoulder. "It is a finisher."
Todoroki tilted his head. "A last resort, then?"
"Something like that."
Iida adjusted his glasses. "Regardless, that is an overwhelming technique. You would not even need to land a direct hit."
Kirishima pounded his fist into his palm. "Dude, if I took that, I would probably end up halfway across the city!"
Sero nodded. "And that is if you are lucky."
Jiro raised an eyebrow. "So, what is the limit? How many of those can you throw before you run out of juice?"
"Depends on how much I charge it." I flexed my fingers. "Back-to-back, probably three full-powered ones before I gas out."
Kaminari winced. "Man, three of those is already overkill."
Bakugo clicked his tongue. "Tch. We will see how overkill it is when someone punches you through a building."
Shoji nodded. "Still, that is a technique meant for ending a fight immediately."
I smirked. "That is the plan."
All Might stepped in to wrap things up, clapped his hands together. "Well! That was quite the demonstration. I believe we all learned something today."
"Yeah," Mina said. "Ryuu is scary as hell."
Jiro sighed. "Like we didn't already know that."
I cracked my neck, shaking off the last bit of tension. "Alright, are we done here?"
Iida, ever the responsible one, nodded. "Yes. Let's return to the main building before we accidentally cause more destruction."
Sero grinned. "Or before All Might gets another heart attack."
All Might laughed, though it sounded slightly nervous. "Yes, let us avoid that."
The class started making their way back, conversations still buzzing.
Mina elbowed me. "You better name that move."
I rolled my eyes. "It already has a name."
She gasped. "And you didn't say it dramatically before using it?!"
"It is not a damn anime attack."
Kaminari pouted. "It totally should be."
Bakugo scoffed. "Dumbasses."
Yaoyorozu walked beside me, glancing at the destroyed wall. "We will have to fix that."
I shrugged. "Not my problem."
All Might sighed. "Unfortunately, that is U.A.'s problem."
Iida turned to me. "You could at least assist in repairs."
"I could," I said. "But I won't."
The rest of the class groaned.
Todoroki walked ahead, hands in his pockets. "I still say the ice wall was structurally sound."
Bakugo rolled his eyes. "We are not talking about your dumbass ice wall again."
The noise of 1-A carried on, everyone still discussing techniques, training, and, in Mina's case, coming up with ridiculous names for my move.
Another day at U.A.
Three days later, as the school day wrapped up, I made my way back home. The others were settling back in, catching up, reestablishing their usual routines. I had nothing to settle.
I pushed the door open.
And then I heard her.
Eri was sobbing.
Panic shot through me. I moved before thinking, stepping into the room, taking in the scene in an instant.
Mom was sitting on the couch, arms wrapped around Eri, her hand stroking the little girl's back in slow, comforting motions. Eri was buried against her, shoulders shaking, her small frame trembling like she was trying to curl in on herself. Tears soaked into Mom's sweater, quiet hiccups breaking through the air.
"What happened?" My voice came out sharper than I meant, my chest tightening at the sound of her sobs.
Mom looked up, her brows furrowed with quiet worry. "Her horn is growing again."
I exhaled through my nose, stepping forward. "Shit."
Eri sniffled, shifting slightly but not pulling away from Mom's embrace. "It… it won't stop," she choked out, her voice breaking.
I crouched in front of them, reaching out, my hands resting lightly on her back. "Hey, it is okay."
She shook her head, pressing her face deeper into Mom's shoulder. "It is getting bigger again. What if I can't stop it? What if I… what if I hurt someone…?"
My jaw clenched.
The last time her horn had acted up, it nearly rewound me out of existence. The fear of losing control wasn't just some childish anxiety… it was real. And Eri had seen firsthand what could happen.
I wasn't gonna let her spiral.
Mom pressed a kiss to Eri's hair, her voice gentle. "We've been practicing, remember? You've been doing so well."
Eri hiccuped. "But, but what if I can't stop?"
"You will," I said. "You have before."
Her little hands clenched in the fabric of Mom's sweater. "But it is growing."
I reached up, brushing her bangs aside, my fingers barely grazing the base of her horn. It was longer than before, not massive, but enough of a change that she had noticed. It made sense. Her Quirk had been developing. Even if she hadn't used it much, her body was still adjusting.
"Growing doesn't mean out of control," I said.
She sniffled again, glancing up at me, her big red eyes glassy. "But what if it does?"
I held her gaze. "Then we will handle it."
She blinked, fresh tears welling up. "But what if I hurt someone?"
I tightened my grip on her back. "Eri, listen to me. If it ever gets bad, I will be there. I won't let anything happen to you or anyone else."
Her lip trembled. "You promise?"
"Of course."
Her small hands reached for me before she could think twice. I didn't hesitate. I scooped her up, settling her against my chest, one arm supporting her while the other cradled the back of her head.
She buried herself in my shirt, still shaking.
Mom exhaled softly, watching us with quiet warmth. "She was worried."
I shifted my hold on Eri, pressing my cheek lightly against her hair. "She should've told me."
Mom gave me a pointed look. "She didn't want to worry you."
I clicked my tongue. "That is my job."
Eri hiccuped again, fisting her tiny hands into my shirt. "I missed you."
I exhaled. "Yeah, me too."
She held on tighter.
Mom ran a hand down Eri's back. "We've been keeping an eye on it, but it is growing slower than before. Her control hasn't slipped."
I nodded, glancing down at Eri. "You've been keeping up with the exercises, right?"
She sniffled, nodding into my shirt. "Mhm."
"Then you are fine."
She didn't look convinced.
I adjusted my grip, lifting her slightly. "You trust me, right?"
She blinked up at me, wiping her eyes with the sleeve of her sweater. "Yeah."
"Then trust me when I say this isn't gonna beat you."
Her lower lip wobbled. Then, slowly, she nodded.
Mom smiled softly. "See? Your big brother got you."
Eri sniffled again, rubbing her face against my chest. "I thought you would be mad."
I blinked. "Mad? Why?"
She fidgeted. "Because I let it grow."
I frowned. "That is not something you control. Your Quirk is part of you."
"But it is scary."
I squeezed her lightly. "Then we will make it less scary."
She should be worried about dolls and candy… not about rewinding the universe by accident. But the damned Quirk never left her alone.
She didn't respond immediately. But after a second, she whispered, "Okay."
Mom reached over, tucking a loose strand of hair behind Eri's ear. "That is my girl."
Eri leaned into me, her breathing slowing, the weight of exhaustion catching up to her. She had probably been crying for a while before I even got here.
I adjusted my hold, standing up with her still in my arms. "You eat yet?"
Mom hummed. "A little. But I could make something."
Eri muttered against my shirt, "Pancakes."
Mom chuckled. "Pancakes for dinner?"
I shrugged. "Sounds fine to me."
Mom sighed, standing up. "Alright, alright. But you have to help."
I smirked. "Fine."
Eri didn't let go of me the entire time. I had to sit her on the counter while I mixed the batter, her little fingers curling around my sleeve like she was worried I would disappear again.
Mom worked alongside us, setting the stove, pulling out plates, making small conversation about the school, the agency, anything to keep things light.
[NEW QUEST: KEEP HER SAFE. FAILURE: UNTHINKABLE.]
I exhaled, brushing flour off my hands. "Yeah. Like I would let that happen."
