Chapter 180 - Home

Image At the End!

---

Winter passed, spring rolled in, and just like that, our time at the agency was up. Months of chaos, patrols, late-night bullshit, and Mirko turning every alley into her personal bedroom, and now we were heading back to school.

The night before we left, Mirko decided sleep was optional. I wasn't complaining. She made sure I would leave with sore legs and an empty tank. I barely got my uniform packed before she yanked me back into bed, and by the time morning hit, I was running on fumes.

The agency was quieter than usual. Ryukyu was at her desk, checking reports, probably making sure we didn't leave behind a mess she would have to clean up. Nejire was bouncing around, stuffing snacks into her bag while Tsuyu reminded her they sold food at UA. Uraraka was double-checking her luggage, muttering about forgetting something.

I pulled on my jacket, adjusting my bag. Mirko leaned against the counter, arms crossed, eyes scanning me like she was debating whether to drag me back for one last round. Ryukyu sighed, setting her tablet down.

"Don't cause too much trouble back at school."

"Define 'too much,'" I said.

She didn't bother answering.

Mirko pushed off the counter and grabbed me, pulling me into a rough hug. "Try not to die, brat."

"Same to you," I muttered against her shoulder.

She grinned, squeezing harder before letting go. I turned to Ryukyu, who gave me a nod before pulling me in for a much softer hug.

"Don't slack off."

"Wouldn't dream of it," I said, stepping back.

Nejire finished stuffing the last of her snacks into her bag and threw her arms around Ryukyu. "I will miss you, boss!"

Ryukyu patted her head. "You will survive."

Tsuyu and Uraraka gave a small bow. "Thank you for everything."

Ryukyu waved a hand. "Get going before you miss your train."

We headed out, the agency fading behind us as we made our way to the station. The streets were alive with the usual morning rush… people moving, cars honking, the air buzzing with activity. The transition back to school felt weird. We spent so much time wrapped up in real hero work that going back to classes almost felt like a step back.

At the station, Nejire was already scrolling through her phone, probably checking if anyone had posted about us leaving. Tsuyu adjusted her bag. Uraraka stretched, yawning.

"Think Aizawa missed us?" I asked.

Tsuyu snorted. "Missed scolding us, maybe."

The train pulled in, doors sliding open. We stepped inside, taking our seats. The ride was quiet at first, the city blurring past the windows.

Uraraka leaned back. "Bet the others had a way easier time."

"Depends," Tsuyu said. "Bakugo probably pissed off Endeavour daily."

Nejire hummed. "I wanna know what others got up to."

I pulled out my phone. "Let's find out."

A group chat with the class was already active. I scrolled through the messages.

Kirishima: Bro, y'all back yet?

Sero: We survived Kamui. Barely.

Mina: I heard rumors about Ryuu being a menace even outside of school. Confirm or deny?

Bakugo: Tch. Like he is not always a menace.

Kaminari: Yo, did you guys see that viral clip of Mirko suplexing a guy into a dumpster? Absolute queen.

Iida: Please tell me you all remained professional.

Toru: Define professional.

I smirked, typing back.

Me: You will see soon.

The train ride continued, conversations jumping between hero work, what we missed at UA, and which teachers were most likely to scold us the second we stepped back on campus.

Nejire nudged me. "Gotta say, I will miss the agency."

"Same," I admitted. "We got used to real work."

Tsuyu nodded. "School might feel slow now."

Uraraka stretched. "At least we won't have to deal with drunk criminals trying to fight us outside convenience stores."

"Great. Back to the land of homework, pop quizzes, and Zuzu crying over notebooks. Whoop-de-fucking-do. If Aizawa doesn't put me in detention by the first week, I will eat my shoes."

The train slowed as we approached the station near U.A. We grabbed our bags, stepping off into the familiar streets. It felt weird being back… not bad, just different. The hero world had been our reality for weeks, and now we were back in student mode.

Nejire inhaled deeply. "Ah, school. Time to annoy everyone again."

I adjusted my bag. "They probably missed it."

Tsuyu glanced toward the entrance. "Should we head straight in?"

"Unless you wanna stand out here all day," I said.

We made our way toward the dorms. As soon as we stepped inside, the room erupted.

"RYUU, YOU aRE BACK!" Kirishima clapped me on the back so hard my spine almost cracked. "HOW WAS THE WORK-STUDY?"

I smirked. "Eventful."

Mina hit me like a goddamn missile, her arms wrapped around my neck before I could react.

"I missed you, bastard."

I patted her back. "Yeah, yeah. You too"

She let go, and I stepped forward into the chaos. The dorm was alive… people talking over each other, catching up, throwing comments left and right. Izuku looked stronger. That was a change. Bakugo looked more mature. That was not good. Shoji was kicking Mineta in the corner. Good. Kaminari was still an idiot.

"Eh, almost the same," I muttered, patting Yaoyorozu on the head as I passed.

Yaoyorozu slapped my hand away but smiled. "I see you have not changed."

"Why would I?" I said, grabbing a drink from the counter. "I was already perfect."

Kaminari leaned over. "So, are we gonna talk about how insane this whole work-study thing was?"

Jirou scoffed. "You? Insane? What did you do, short-circuit a vending machine?"

"Excuse you, I actually got some real experience," Kaminari shot back, puffing his chest out. "I…"

Bakugo cut him off. "You probably fried your own dumbass and got benched, Pikachu. Shut the hell up."

Kaminari groaned. "Man, you ruin everything."

Sero grinned. "Yeah, but it was fun watching."

Kirishima leaned forward. "What about you, Ryuu? Heard you and Mirko wrecked half the city."

I stretched. "Half is an exaggeration."

"That is not a denial," Todoroki noted.

"Damn right," I muttered.

Mina gasped dramatically. "Wait, wait! Hold up! Did you guys really fight in an alley while eating snacks?"

Uraraka blinked. "Where did you hear that?"

Mina pointed at her phone. "The internet never lies."

Kirishima nodded. "It does sound like something he would do."

Tsuyu hummed. "I support this story."

I rolled my eyes. "Y'all just believe anything, huh?"

Yaoyorozu sighed. "Considering your history? Yes."

Mineta peeked out from behind Shoji. "So, uh… about Mirko…"

Shoji smacked him.

Mineta yelped, but nobody acknowledged him.

The conversation shifted, bouncing between stories. Everyone had something wild to say… Aoyama apparently blinded some villain with a well-timed sparkle attack, Ojiro ended up in a hostage situation, and Sato got recognized at a bakery for single-handedly taking down a robbery mid-sugar rush.

"Wait, so you just punched the guy while eating a croissant?" Mina asked, eyes wide.

Sato nodded. "It was a good croissant."

Uraraka sighed. "Man, now I want one."

"Same," I muttered.

The dorms settled down after the usual chaos, people filtering out to their rooms or catching up in smaller groups. Nobody said it outright, but there was an unspoken shift… everyone had changed. Work studies had pushed them harder than anything at U.A. before, and now, coming back, even the air felt different. No one wanted to fall behind.

The second Mineta opened his mouth again, I grabbed Izuku and made my exit. Too much noise. Too much dumbass energy. And I could feel my IQ dropping by the second.

We made our ways home, our bags slung over our shoulders. His hands moving like he was reenacting every moment.

"Bakugo wouldn't shut up about Endeavor's methods. Shoto was quiet most of the time, but you could tell he was taking notes," Izuku said. "Endeavor pushed us pretty hard. I don't think I have ever been this exhausted."

"You look alive enough," I said. "Guess he didn't roast you completely."

Izuku laughed. "Not completely, but I am close. What about you? Ryukyu's agency seemed intense."

"Intense, yeah. Different kind of intense, though," I said. "Less 'do this my way or die,' more 'try not to blow up half the city.'"

Izuku nodded. "Sounds like Ryukyu. She's calm but firm."

"Calm," I muttered. "Sure. Let's call it that."

He tilted his head. "What does that mean?"

"Nothing." I kept walking.

He squinted at me, but I kept walking. "So, how far are you in OFA control?"

He rubbed the back of his head. "I can handle about 40% now. Also got Blackwhip down."

I slapped his back hard enough to make him stumble and faceplant into the dirt. I kept moving. "Good. If you were still weak, I would disown you."

He popped back up and jogged to catch up. "You know you are adopted, right? I can kick your adopted ass, not the other way around."

I grinned. "Yeah? Tell that to Mom."

He snorted. "She would probably help me."

"Doubt it. You are her 'sweet cinnamon roll' and I am her favorite mistake."

"Pretty sure you made that up."

"Pretty sure I didn't."

As we cut through the garden, a white blur slammed into my chest. I caught her easily. "Ryuu!" Eri's smile nearly split her face as she wrapped her arms around my neck.

I patted her head. "Hey, shrimp. You grew taller."

She gasped. "Really?"

"Yeah. Like… one whole centimeter. Maybe."

"That is a lot!"

"Sure is."

Izuku chuckled. "She is catching up to you fast, Ryuu."

"Funny," I said flatly.

Mom was already at the door, smiling as if she had been waiting all morning. "Welcome home," she said, pulling both of us into a hug before we could even step inside.

Mom hugged me like I had just come back from war. Which, technically… yeah. War with fewer guns and more horny rabbits.

Izuku relaxed into it like always, and Eri squeezed tighter around my neck. "Did you bring me candy?" she whispered.

I raised a brow. "You think I would forget?"

Her eyes lit up. "Best big brother ever!"

Mom stepped back slightly, brushing her hands down my shoulders. "You look tired. Were you sleeping properly?"

I glanced at Izuku. "Define 'properly.'"

She frowned. "That is not an answer."

I shrugged. "We are alive, aren't we?"

Izuku nodded. "Mostly."

Mom sighed. "Go wash up. You are both filthy from travel."

Eri grinned, still holding on. "Can I help unpack?"

"You just want first dibs on the candy."

She gasped dramatically. "Nooo."

"Yes." I poked her forehead lightly. "But fine."

Izuku stepped inside ahead of us, and Mom gave me a look. "Behave this time, Ryuu."

I smirked. "I am a model student."

She flicked my ear. "Liar."

We stepped in, the house smelling like fresh bread. For the first time in months, it felt like we were actually home.
