Mister Toby frowned and questioned, "Was it Jamie who did this to you?" His eyes were filled with anger and self-blame.
"Of course not," Mia lied. Even though it was the truth that her injuries were caused by Jamie, she knew that her father would blame himself if she told him the truth. She could only smile and lie to her father. Anyway, a lie told with the goodness of heart couldn't be considered a lie.
She placed down the fruits that she had brought for her father on the table beside his bed and told him, "It was an accident. I fell from the stairs when I was in a hurry."
"Why don't you pay attention to yourself?" Mister Toby said, looking desperately sorry for his daughter. "You are just like your mother. When she was working, she would never pay attention to anything, not even herself. How I wish you were a bit selfish."
Mia smiled. She had often heard her father say that she was more like her mother than him.
