Chapter 477: Developing Light Release
Regarding the grand strategy of the shinobi world, all the necessary arrangements had been made. According to Ishiro's expectations, a long period of peace would follow.
Ōnoki once again set out on his journey. This time, he took Shinya Matsutani with him. Of course, Rōshi was also forced upon Ōnoki by Ishiro.
And Ishiro himself finally had time to continue his own training.
According to his plan, Ishiro's training goal was to allow his body to fully adapt to Light Release. This was the main objective he had set for himself.
So far, Ishiro had no specific idea how to achieve this goal. All he could do was continuously improve his proficiency with Dust Release.
For this training session, Ishiro had a very important theoretical resource: Madara Uchiha's notes.
The incredible Madara had actually researched some of the more obscure Kekkei Genkai.
For example, the scrolls Obito had given Ishiro this time were no longer the conventional five-element notes. Obito had probably heard about Iwa's performance against Kumo and knew that their five-element ninjutsu was improving rapidly. So this time, Obito had given Ishiro notes on some rare Kekkei Genkai.
This made Ishiro feel it was truly miraculous. Madara shouldn't have been able to master these Kekkei Genkai, so how did he write notes on them?
In the original story, Madara had used Storm Release after absorbing the Ten-Tails. But Ishiro had always believed that was because his power level had increased, allowing him to look down from a higher level and achieve such a feat.
Now, Ishiro knew he was wrong. After the battle at the Valley of the End, Madara had likely spent decades researching the fundamental nature of chakra. Even if he couldn't use Storm Release back then, it was clear from his notes that Madara had a very deep understanding of it. This deep understanding made Ishiro seriously suspect that Madara had already managed to fuse and create Storm Release on his own.
The notes Obito gave him this time were all of this type.
Ishiro even wondered if Madara, like himself, possessed multiple Kekkei Genkai.
Ishiro read through each scroll carefully and felt he had benefited greatly. In particular, Madara's various descriptions and speculations on the fusion of two natures opened a new world for him.
"The importance of these notes is far greater than that of the single five-element notes," Ishiro thought, shaken.
After putting the scrolls away, Ishiro, who had been sitting in the training ground planning to practice Light Release, instead began to use Porcelain Release.
Porcelain Release was the Kekkei Genkai he was most proficient with. Although Madara's notes included Storm Release, which Ishiro also knew, he decided to test what he had learned using porcelain.
Ishiro formed a ball of porcelain mud and levitated it in front of him. Then, he focused on controlling it. The mud, like a ball of dough, constantly changed shape.
After an unknown amount of time, a few drops of water suddenly dripped from the mud. Ishiro caught them in his hand. It was indeed water, pure water without any earth nature.
Then, Ishiro parted the mud, separating a tiny clump of earth from the very center. He picked it up with his other hand and sensed it carefully. It was a very pure earth clump, with no water nature at all.
"It really works!" Ishiro muttered to himself.
This was the conclusion he had drawn from Madara's notes: to re-convert an already manifested Kekkei Genkai ninjutsu back into its two constituent natures.
The previous Ishiro would have been unable to do this; he wouldn't have even thought of it. As for whether it was useful, he didn't know. But he knew one thing: it would greatly help improve his proficiency with Porcelain Release.
The direction was correct. Ishiro cast Porcelain Release again and continued practicing this separation.
Sure enough, the miraculous chakra had a memory function. The second time was much easier than the first. Ishiro's speed increased. A few days later, he could easily decompose a head-sized ball of porcelain mud into water and earth.
He didn't stop, practicing for several more days until the conversion became as simple as eating and drinking.
Then, he began the next experiment: re-fusing the separated water and earth back into porcelain.
This process was simpler than the last. Perhaps because of his previous practice, his control over porcelain had become more proficient. In just two days, he had completed the exercise.
In the training ground, Ishiro stood motionless, his hands behind his back, an air of calm detachment about him. Surrounding him, a large amount of mud, flowing water, and earth swirled. The mud was constantly separating into water and earth, while the water and earth were constantly fusing into new mud. The cycle repeated, and Ishiro controlled it as if it were an extension of his own limbs.
"A pity. Water and earth are too common. If it were the water and lightning of Storm Release, it would probably look much more mystical," Ishiro sighed, dropping his otherworldly expression.
Having spent a considerable amount of time on Porcelain Release, Ishiro finally turned his attention back to Light Release.
He extended his hands and began to gather Light Release chakra. Soon, a small ball of it appeared in front of him. He tried to control this ball and decompose it.
But after a short while, the ball of Light Release went out of control.
Ishiro instantly flickered backward, a porcelain barrier rapidly forming in front of him. Thanks to his recent practice, his casting speed for Porcelain Release had increased significantly. He successfully protected himself before the Light Release exploded.
BOOM!
The out-of-control Light Release detonated, vaporizing a layer of the porcelain barrier.
Ishiro breathed a sigh of relief, a lingering fear in his heart. That was too careless.
Light Release, unlike the porcelain that was fully integrated into his body, was capable of killing him in an instant.
Ishiro didn't give up. He just became more cautious in his practice. The moment the Light Release chakra showed signs of losing control, he would immediately fire it away.
He tried dozens of times with no progress.
But Ishiro wasn't anxious. It's fine. The chakra will help me understand.
So, in the following days, the members of the advisory council were surprised to find that Ishiro was staying obediently in the village and hadn't once suggested going out to wander. This made the high command a bit uneasy.
Ishiro didn't know what they were thinking. He himself only practiced this one thing every day: continuously trying to decompose Light Release.
Although he saw no progress in the decomposition, his control over Light Release had clearly improved. At the beginning, the Light Release would go out of control within seconds of him trying to decompose it. But after more than a month, he could now control it for over ten seconds. This was great progress, and his confidence grew.
However, today he didn't plan to continue training.
It was time to collect rent from Obito Uchiha. It had been a long time—almost two months. Ishiro felt he was being an incompetent landlord.
Ishiro once again arrived above Obito's base and shouted, "Genius, come on out!"
Soon, a figure emerged from the ground. But this time, it wasn't Obito; it was a White Zetsu clone.
The Zetsu clone threw a scroll to Ishiro. "The master is not here. He told me to give this to you."
Ishiro caught the scroll and began to inspect it, wondering where Obito had gone. "Why is there only one? It's been two months."
The Zetsu clone thought for a moment. It seemed Obito had said one per month. So, it threw another one to Ishiro.
After checking it, Ishiro continued, "I'm still missing two. Didn't Genius tell you about the rent increase?"
The Zetsu clone smiled. "The master said he has moved the others. They are no longer in the Land of Earth, so the rent has returned to one scroll."
Ishiro was furious. "Nonsense! The contract I made with Genius was for two! He's not here, and you think you can just change the contract with your words?"
"Even if we were to change it, Genius would have to come and discuss it with me in person."
"Besides, how do I know if you've really moved? Cut the crap and pay up!"
The Zetsu clone hesitated. It remembered Obito's instructions: Don't completely fall out with the Tsuchikage. So, it took out two more scrolls and threw them to Ishiro.
After checking them, Ishiro smiled with satisfaction. He then asked in a friendly tone, "You're a White Zetsu clone, right? Our village has many of your comrades."
"I caught those comrades of yours myself, so we're old acquaintances. Can you chat with me for a bit?"
The White Zetsu clone: ...
Is this how you humans think? This is different from what Obito said.
Ishiro ignored its thoughts. "Tell me, where did Genius go?"
The Zetsu clone was tight-lipped. "I don't know where the master went."
Ishiro said, "Nonsense. You have to report to him, don't you? Just tell me, which direction do you usually run when you use your earth-style travel?"
Being asked this way, the Zetsu clone subconsciously glanced to the east.
"Oh? East? Did he really move? He just abandoned the Ten-Tails' body here?" Ishiro said loudly, his eyes fixed on the Zetsu clone, his Mind's Eye carefully observing its reaction.
Hearing Ishiro's words, the Zetsu clone shifted uncomfortably, its chakra flow quickening slightly. It did seem a bit nervous.
This reaction... doesn't seem like he's deliberately trying to trick me. In that case, if it's to the east...? Ishiro thought for a moment.
The next moment, Ishiro stared at the Zetsu clone again. "So Genius went to the Land of Iron. That's a good place. The Five—no, the Six Great Shinobi Villages won't extend their reach there."
"Genius has gotten smarter. He's not playing the 'hiding in plain sight' game anymore?"
As he spoke, he continued to observe the Zetsu clone's reaction.
He saw the clone's body visibly stiffen. Then, without another word, it遁 into the ground.
Ishiro didn't stop it. He was wondering if this could be another of Obito's schemes.
In the original story, White Zetsu could transform and infiltrate the Allied Shinobi Forces. Their intelligence should be decent.
So Ishiro wasn't sure if this was another trap set by Black Zetsu and Obito, like the underground shrine last time.
If it was a conspiracy, it wouldn't be fun. After their last failure, if they still dared to set a trap, they must have taken all of his abilities into account. If he blindly walked into it, he might get caught. He didn't dare take that risk.
How about I let someone else test the waters? I wonder if Kiri's Ning Mizunashi has returned to his village yet.
It's been over a month since he issued the mission. Taking over a month to find Obito's whereabouts sounds quite reasonable.
Yes. He's the one.
