They attacked.
The woman blurred forward like smoke. Her twin daggers flashed in the dim light, silver arcs cutting through mist. Kael's Eclipse Step kicked in on pure instinct. Shadows wrapped around him like a cloak. His body shifted left. Her first strike whistled past his ear.
The screech was sharp and high. Kael parried her second blade, his arm jarring from the impact. But her third dagger was already coming. It was too fast. The tip nicked his thigh, opening flesh. Blood welled up hot.
Kael grunted through the pain. He swept low with his dagger, aiming for her legs. She flipped over the strike, her body twisting in midair like she weighed nothing. She landed behind him without a sound like a ghost.
The sickle-wielder attacked from the side. His chain whipped through the mist with a metallic hiss. Kael ducked at the last second. The blade grazed his cloak, tearing fabric. The chain wrapped around a boulder behind him, yanking it loose.
