Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Change

A solid silence suddenly enveloped the room as everyone was silent.

Leon was smiling with an interested expression,.Adrian was staring at everyone else waiting for someone to speak.

Gordon had a stern expression while staring directly at Darius.

Darius seemed unfazed by the sudden change in the room and was the first to speak as he brought the matter up.

"I suggest we now turn back on the Article 46. There is no reason we should kill all mutations without proof of their aggression."

"All mutations are potentially dangerous, and while that may not always be the case at birth, th y are exactly that at the point of death!."

Gordon chimed in with an aggressive tone and continued.

"I don't care if you think they are still people, at the end of the day, their essence makes them so volatile that they will become a form of essence beast at some point in their lives!."

"We have solutions to that and an essence beast can be tamed. Their children and no child should have a predestined death because of how their born."

Darius refused to back down and kept his eyes locked on Gordon.

Gordon had been around longer than anyone in this room and desperately knew how bad mutations are once they became strong enough, so he refused to let Darius talk him out of it.

"Some things must be done, none of us can make them normal so why try and risk our citizens lives for a small number of children?."

"Because their children, they have the biggest dreams of us all chief."

Leon chimed in and spoke making Gordon even more displeased.

"I see your point but people have to live for you to know who needs to die."

Leon was on Darius's side because while he may not have been a mutation, he wasn't normal either.

Out of everyone here, he was the one who came up from the normal people and knew pacts like this one affected them extremely.

"Adrian what do you think?."

Gordon asked the man he thought would at least support him.

"I don't really care to be specific, I see mutations as weapons of war like any other dreamknight. They don't exactly pick my interest."

Everyone knew that man was lying but didn't want to be bothered by his actual thoughts on the matter as they most likely broke a law or two.

"If you want all mutations to be saved, you must have a guarantee that none of them will suddenly go on a rampage."

This was Gordon's best chance at getting some sort of precaution against mutations as it showed that no-one else took them as seriously as he did.

"Fine, but for now let's get something straight. Mutations can have normal lives like the rest of us.. right?."

"Yes."

Hearing Gordon's approval, Darius dismissed himself from the room.

Gordon was very annoyed but could let out a sigh of frustration as he watched Darius leave.

"This meeting is a rare one, so why did he decide to leave like that. Even if all important matters have been discussed, he would usually keep tabs on everyone's condition?."

Adrian voiced out his curiosity only to hear the mocking of Leon.

"You wouldn't understand, only man who has a family could."

Adrian stood up and said his farewells to Gordon before sprinting out in anger.

Leon just looked at Gordon innocently.

"Was it something I said. I was just matching his style of being honest."

Gordon dismissed Leon and left the room before becoming the target of his childishness.

Left alone sitting there, he stood up and started walking to the lower floors of the building.

...

Zeke was fast asleep in his old room after having played the violin to his heart's content into the evening.

He was now laying on top of the bed sheets while muffled voices could be heard outside his door.

"He still can't even tuck himself in. Has he grown in anyway in that little mind of his?."

Anastasia was outside the door whispering to herself as a warm smile covered her face.

She walked in and took a blanket that was on a chair in the room before covering him with it.

Zeke always fell fast asleep but would usually wake up if someone walked in on him after an hour of rest.

She knew she only had an hour before he potentially woke up.

In that time she just couldn't help but feel genuine happiness at the idea that he was truly back as she organised some of his knew clothes.

Anastasia walked to the door and looked one more time at her troublesome child before whispering to herself.

"Thank you for coming back home."

As the door closed and the room was back to being left in the dark with only the light of the moon illuminating the room, no one was there to notice a smile forming on Zeke's face for a brief moment.

...

In the morning, Zeke was eating breakfast when Nebula came running at him.

"Dad signed you up for the academy!!."

With an excited look on her face, she screamed it at him.

Zeke paused as the words took longer than expected to process in his own mind.

"What?."

It took a Nebula repeating it two more times for Zeke to understand as he looked at her with an expression of confusion.

He couldn't understand why his father would do this so he finished his cereal before going to speak with his father.

Nebula followed behind him like an unwanted tail.

Knock, knock!

The two arrived in his throne room and after being allowed to come in, Zeke opened the door and rushed to confirm the news.

"Yes, it's all true."

"Why?."

"Because I can, now get ready for school you two."

Darius watched the shocked expression of Zeke turn to confusion while Nebula started pulling him out of the room.

He wished he had done this earlier but was okay that he finally pulled it off now at the very least.
