"No…" I muttered, stepping back slowly, my hands trembling around the scissors…
"This can't be. You're lying. You have to be lying"
The man didn't flinch. His expression didn't change. He stood calmly, hands still raised, like he was used to people breaking down in front of him.
His black eyes locked onto mine like he was reading my thoughts.
"I wish I were" he said quietly, and somehow that tone hit harder than all the yelling he could've done.
"I am not like you" I snapped "I don't hurt people for fun. I don't scarfice children. I'm not a murderer"
"And yet." He said, tilting his head "you killed your grandfather. You killed the Alpha, your best friend's father. And something deep inside you didn't feel wrong about it"
My grip on the scissors tightened. My fingers were going numb, and I didn't even notice until then. I lowered the blade a little, my shoulder shaking. I hated him for speaking the truth I'd buried even from myself.
