CHAPTER 384
~Valerie's POV~
I got back to school before lunch period, but the words King Davion said about my family and my powers wouldn't leave my head. They echoed like whispers in the back of my mind, refusing to fade.
I hadn't asked any more questions after that—honestly, I didn't trust myself to. But Xander, being Xander, decided to take me for a stroll around the gardens before we returned.
He said the fresh air would "help me think clearer," though I suspected it was just his way of making sure I didn't brood too hard.
As if on cue, King Davion's phone rang. He excused himself, and asked for Xander to accompany me.
Well, Xander already planned on doing so in the first place.
"If you don't focus now, you might bump into…" Astra barely cautioned me before I accidentally bumped into someone.
"Oh, sorry. I just um… wasn't looking." I stammered, straightening myself and brushing my hair back from my face.
And then I froze, because it was him.
Ace.
