Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: All Might V Nomu

While the brawl between the heroes and the riff raff villains, Shigaraki's could only spare a glance at the extras before his attention was focused on the fight between Nomu and All Might

"Kurogiri, tell me when they get close and just teleporte them somewhere, they're extras and unimportant, I'd rather they not interrupt my viewing of the boss fight"

He ordered the ever-present bartender behind him, and Kurogiri silently acknowledged his words.

With the orders given to Kurogiri, Shigaraki quickly tuned everything out and watched as All Might battle Nomu.

The Vallain watched as the symbol of seemed to struggle fighting the Nomu, each punch he threw was absorbed and Nomu countered with his ow devastating blow, it was unfortunate that unlike Nomu All Might took the brunt of each attack without the shock absorption, so each punch wore him down

Shigaraki couldn't help but smile gleefully. It seems that everything would be going as intended.

'The symbol of peace is finally going to fall'

He said to himself inwardly, feeling a small hint of excitement slowly bubble up from the depths of his stomach.

The hypocritical hero society will soon be demolished, and a step towards that goal begins with the death of All Might. The man's very existence upholds Hero society. With him gone, it will crumble.

"Once he is dead, society will slowly but surely unravel. Villains will rise, and heroes will fall, we will destroy this society and, from its ashes, build anew."

He expressed with unrecognisable glee in his tone, something Kurogiri who stood behind him found surprising. It wasn't that Shigaraki was not the type to express his emotions, but rather they way he usually expressed his expresses his excitement was different from how he expressed his anger and irritation.

His excitement was more calm and subdued, while his anger was always explosive. He was more likely to yell when angry than scream out of excitement. As such, it was odd to see him so expressive while excited

Meanwhile, as Shigaraki was showing his excitement for the coming world, a world without heroes. On the other side of the plaza, Taro, too, watched the fight between All Might and Nomu, and he couldn't help but feel nervous.

Even as Viltrumite, his healing was not so fast that his torn forearm muscles could heal in under a few minutes. This meant if All Might lost the battle with Nomu, it was over.

Aizawa certainly couldn't beat the Nomu, and as much as he believes the likes of Bakugou, Todoroki, and Kirishima are strong, they would be nothing but fodder to the creature that would have defeated All Might.

Taro witnessed as All Might executed a perfect german suplex and buried Nomu, deep into the ground. However, the creature was strong enough to split open that ground and pull itself out and continue to fight All Might.

The ground shook as All Might and Nomu continued to clash, by all accounts it looked as though they were evenly matched, with Nomu having the advantage however All Might was undaunted and kept up with it even when his own attacks seemed to do little damage.

The shock absorption was the issue, and All Might was doing everything he could to get past it and put down the beast. However, nothing seemed to work. He has already performed a suplex and tried to bury it on the ground. However, Nomu dug himself out and continued to fight without stopping.

All Might launched himself at the beast, doing a perfect shoulder tackle and spearing Nomu right on the torso and sending it crashing on the ground, the ground shook once more and All Might stood over it and planned to grab its legs.

However, Nomu would not allow him to continue with whatever he planned, as the beast used both its thick legs to kick the Hero on his stomach and sent him flying back several meters.

All Might groaned in pain, the attack from Nomu had grazed the weak spot location on the side of his stomach, forcing him clench his teeth and drop on one knee however the hero was far from beaten, He quickly stood on his feet and both him and Nomu launched it each other, clashing once more.

Their clash once again generated a shockwave that kicked up a gust of wind and dust, obscuring both of their forms.

All Might could feel the fatigue slowly show itself, not only did he have to sprint all the way from the beach to here but without even getting a moment of rest he began to battle a foe that was comparable to him in strength, that was incredibly taxing on his body, especially now considering he is far weaker than ever before.

The young Viltrumite watched All Might give his all against the Nomu, with a face showing an expression of intensity and seriousness. The fight he was witnessing was exciting. This was a first-hand experience he was witnessing the number 1 hero in action, and he wanted to see everything.

There are plenty of videos online of All Might fighting or saving people, however this was different from videos online that you could only see through a screen, such footage didn't quite convey the gravity of the fight, it was just something cool to look at.

However, this fight was real. It had weight. If All Might fell here, then everyone in the plaza would follow. This was dangerous, and All Might was putting his life on the line. This, of course, was expected from a hero, but Taro couldn't help but ask himself a question.

'Why?!'

All Might was not just the number 1 hero of Japan, he was a world renowned hero, a powerhouse that most heroes across the world looked up to, he was powerful in the truest sense of the world.

The man could have chosen to be something that wasn't a hero. He could have become a villain just as easily as he became a hero, or he could have chosen a different lifestyle altogether.

What was so great about being a hero anyway? Was it the money? The fame? In this day and age, being a hero was very lucrative and often came with fame and fortune.

Those things were good motivators by themselves but hardly enough to risk one's life for. It's not that Taro did not understand the appeal of heroes, he understood that whole "With great power comes great responsibility" however even with that phrase, why should that great responsibility necessarily mean one has to be a hero?

By having great power, are you then obliged to use it for the good of others and be a hero? Taro didn't like that. It felt as though by simply having power, you inherently become a worker for other people, almost as if the power isn't yours.

He didn't get it, he didn't understand, his power was his to use however he liked, and he shouldn't be obligated to do anything for anyone.

So why? What was it that made men decide to become heroes? especially if the world they lived in was saturated and filled to the brim by heroes. What was a hero to begin with? The answer to the latter question should be fairly simple, a hero is someone who saves others from danger.

The only question he couldn't answer was the why, Why be a hero when there's plenty of people who are willing to the job, there's zero reason for an individual to risk their lives when someone else could simply do that in their stead.

Taro was a selfish individual, Although he tried not to appear like he wasn't but at the end of the day, all that mattered to him was, his own self interest, he was at UA university to protect his sister and because he wanted to have some fun.

Being a hero was the last thing on his mind, heroes permeated every corner of the world, there was no need for more, enough of them already existed, as such didn't really care to become one.

What mattered was using his powers in a way that he could enjoy and have fun with. That was all there was to it, nothing more, and so far, he has been able to do that

However, looking at All Might, Taro couldn't help but have the question linger in his mind, There were already enough heroes in the world, were more necessary?

He didn't think so, but regardless of what he thought, the reality remained, and everyday new heroes rise and add to the already saturated field, and by the looks , it wouldn't stop anytime soon.

"ARGHH!!"

Those questions would remain unanswered in his head, as his thoughts were interrupted by the sudden and guttural scream, His mind had begun to wonder and his attention taken from the fight, as such he did not see the Nomu land a powerful blow on All Might, directly on the side of his stomach.

....

A/N: Personally I like the phrase "with great power comes great responsibility" but looking at it objectively it's doesn't necessarily tell you to go be a hero or anything, in fact depending on how you interpret it, it might mean something that's opposite to being a hero.

Like, for instance, the great responsibility could be using your powers to "fix" the world.
