As the two figures disappeared, Ajab's face remained utterly deadpan.
"I really wasn't wondering."
He sighed and turned to Liah, who had been standing there all along. With steady, unhurried steps, he walked until he stood directly before her.
"You heard it right?" His voice was hoarse—but firm.
She bowed as he approached. When she lifted her head, her eyes met his—and the pallor of his face unsettled her. He really needs to shower, she thought, before returning to the matter at hand.
"A lot of things were said," she replied. "I'm not sure which His Highness is referring to."
Ajab raised a brow. True, a lot had been said—but he didn't consider it much of a loss. He had gained something from the very beginning.
"I have free rein with the Royal Treasury."
Liah squinted faintly, confusion flickering across her features. The pause stretched just long enough to make the silence uncomfortable.
"Your Highness?"
"Mother said I get snacks."
