I pushed open the door, pulling my heavy body to the bed in the corner. Standing in front of it, I felt like I could melt into the floor any moment now, then let myself fall down. Groaning, my face hitting the mattress while my knees hit the floor.
Just let me die already.
After Emily threw me to the wolves, Leo ended up beating the shit out of me for the rest of the day. Isn't this supposed to be a fantasy world? Aren't people supposed to be gentler with girls? Like boo misogyny, but you could at least go easy on me you cuckfaced asshole.
I let out another groan, feeling my body get heavier as my face sunk deeper into the mattress. Well, not really, but it felt like it. I turned my head to the side, staring at the foot board in a daze. Blinking a few times, I let my eyes close.
Fuck it, I'm just gonna sleep here.
-----------------
When I woke up, everything fucking hurt. Thanks body, I fucking hate you.
Groaning, I got up, falling onto the bed properly this time. Let's see, my knees hurt, and my spine too, so I won't be moving for a while, I should've just went to bed properly.
Haah, I fucking hate this.
Rolling over, I stared at the ceiling, my body feeling oddly numb now as sunlight shone through the window.
Now I'm hungry.
… Nah, I'm too lazy for that shit. I'll just sleep it off and be hungry later.
I rolled to the side, letting out a sigh as I closed my eyes again.
But before I could fall asleep, I heard a knock on the wall, Emily leaning against the side of the hole in the wall that used to be a door. I looked down, seeing a plaid dress in pastel yellow, and white ruffles along the skirt and sleeve cuffs, with white knee socks and dark brown shoes. You know, like those ones you see in high school anime.
Honestly, if she didn't watch as that fugly asshat beat the shit out of me yesterday, I would've thought this get up was really fucking cute. But now, I just wanna throw her off a cliff and plant her head on a pike in front of her weeping family. Actually never mind, since this is war time, if she's working in the military instead of living it up as a noble with her Celestial Arts, she's probably an orphan. Guess throwing her off a cliff is enough. I might have to throw in a few fireballs down there to make sure she dies. Best outcome is that her bones break due to the fall, causing internal bleeding, only to end her life via oxygen deprivation. Slow and painful.
I continued staring at her, not feeling like talking right now as she met my stare with her own.
She rolled her eyes, pushing off the wall as she said, "Are you done planning my murder now? If so, I'm taking you to go see your brother."
Minh?
I got up, still feeling the dull ache in my lower back as I asked, "Is he okay?"
"Oh no, he's fine for now, it's just… his lifebound weapon seems to be… a special case…" she trailed off, confusion showing on her face.
"And special how?"
Is it the mental illness? I wouldn't be surprised.
Emily looked away, crossing her arms as she tapped the floor with her shoe. After a second, she turned away as she motioned to follow.
"You'll see for yourself."
As I watched her walk off, I slowly got up from the bed, my legs still feeling a bit wobbly.
… The fuck was that?
After I got up, I followed after her, passing by the hole in the wall and into the hallway. Maybe I should block the door with some furniture or something after I get back.
Anyways, what's wrong with Minh though? Other than being an asshole of a brother, I'm pretty sure he's not dying that easily. He's lived through worse, and I'm not gonna let him die either.
Looking ahead at Emily who barely reached my shoulders, I touched the back of my neck, a cold tingly feeling at my finger tips.
Celestial arts is just healing magic right? If Minh decides to meet up with dad, if I'm careful about it, Emily should be able to help out. Wait, if we die, won't we disappear since we're not from this world? And I don't think Asteria is gonna send us back home if we do, so…
We'll just disappear?
Suddenly, a chill went down my spine. Well fuck, I've never been good at hardcore mode damn it. Why Truck-kun? Was I really protagonist material?!
After walking up a flight of stairs- yes I can walk up stairs without dying now, suck it! Anyway, we stopped at a door and- hold on, it has holes. Why are there holes? Emily reached out a foot, pushing the door open before ducking down. In the next instant, a black object shot out of the open door coming straight at me.
Shit!!!
I jumped back, falling backwards onto the floor as the thingy stopped inches away from my face.
"What the fu-!" I paused, staring at the blade of the black dagger in front of me.
The fuck?
Sitting up, examining the knife floating in front of my face. The whole thing was black with a single slightly curved blade, kinda like if a kitchen knife and a butterfly knife had an emo baby. Taking a closer look, I noticed some points along the sharp edge, making a row of sharp teeth that would probably hurt like a bitch.
I leaned closer, reaching out to poke it. It felt cold- like I know metal is cold, but this is one really cold. Like washing the kitchen knives in cold water, that kind. Also how is this thing floating? Is this the thing Emily was talking about? Why's a floating knife in Minh's room?!
"Huh, it seems my guess was right," Emily nodded, getting up from the ground as she circled around behind me.
"What guess? Also, don't use me as a shield you ass!"
She rolled her eyes, scooting further behind me.
Bitch?! Don't sacrifice me to the demon knife!
"That knife right there is your brother's lifebound tool," she explained, pointing at the demon knife still frozen mid-air, "It formed a lot sooner than expected and started attacking anything within range. Leo got stabbed so many times I'm starting to think it's targeting him specifically."
"Fuck yeah!" I cheered before stopping myself, "Ahem… Oh. That sucks."
Nailed it
After judging me for a minute, Emily continued, "Anyways, I guessed that for some reason, a part of your brother's consciousness merged with it early, but because he's currently unconscious, it's following it's basic instincts."
"So Minh's just naturally violent?"
"Looks like it."
"Makes sense," I nodded, slowly reaching out to grab the hilt of the knife.
After grabbing it, it felt like gravity finally decided to kick in, the demon knife easily falling into my palm. After looking at it for a while, I waved it around, turning it over to take a closer look at it.
Like all the other lifebound tools I've seen, there were small graphien runes etched into the blade, though it's kinda hard to read 'cause it's entirely black and tiny, but I made out a few lines.
"Σ𝔈Λ𝔏-𝔅ρη𝔄𝔎ερ."
"What?"
"Nothing!"
I glanced at the demon knife, thankfully, nothing was happening- wait a minute, nothing's happening? That's fucking weird. Usually graphien is like, a flashy light show or something like that. Is this thing broken? Can a lifebound weapon be broken? Is it because Minh's in a coma and can't control it, or is something else happening? Well, it's not like I'll find out on the floor, I'll just kick Minh awake and find out.
Gripping the demon knife, I got up and walked straight into the room, and- HOLY SUN!!!
DID I JUST GET FLASH BOMBED, FUCKING CHRIST!!!!!
The room was a fucking mess. Everything was full of holes, or broken into scrap wood with knife marks all over the place. It looked like some lunatic went ham with a kitchen knife. And I can't fucking blame them. I would go crazy too if I stayed here.
Inside, there were no walls, or ceiling, just windows, too many windows. Like a shit ton of windows, like an illegal amount. And who told the sun to be so fucking bright? I'd probably go blind here!
I turned around, seeing Emily leaning against the doorway- and wait, are those sunglasses?! Why didn't you give me those?!! Just because we're on the same side doesn't mean I'll sacrifice my eyes for you!! Also, how are sunglasses in a medieval fantasy world? Really break immersion here.
Squinting through the bright light, I turned to a bed, the only thing that wasn't completely destroyed, and laying there was Minh and- holy pale, the ritual whitewashed my brother. I mean he was pale to begin with, but like damn. Also, how did they do that?? They've been tanning him in concentrated vitamin D for two days, how is he paler than before?????
Suddenly, I felt the demon knife shake, before it shot out of my hand and started stabbing everything!
Fuck!
I threw myself on top of Minh. Well, more like his stomach, but I tried.
"Ah fuck!"
Hah?
The next moment, I was on the floor with a throbbing head and a hurting stomach along with something dropping on the floor nearby.
Ow… ow, what the fuck?!!
I got up, rubbing my stomach as I threw a middle finger at Minh- wait he's awake?
He glared down at me from the bed, brushing his messy hair from his face.
"The hell are you flipping me off for? You're dumbass was the one who jumped on me first!"
"Fuck off! Next time the demon knife goes crazy I'm not saving you!" I shot back, glaring back at him.
This asshole! I literally sacrificed myself for you shithead!
"What demon knife?!"
I paused for a moment, turning beside me to see the black knife laying on the floor before turning back to him, "THAT ONE!"
"WHY ARE YOU YELLING?!"
"BECAUSE FUCK YOU!!"
"FUCK YOU!!"
...….
...….
"Dead ass though, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I can't see, but I feel fine."
"Oh, okay," I nodded, staring at Minh's squinting eyes before getting up and using my hands to shield him from the light.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
...
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"I'm fine," Minh assured, "Just tired, I can't sleep for shit here."
I nodded.
I get that. I wouldn't be able to sleep for shit either.
"Wanna sleep in my room?"
"Sure," Minh shrugged, grabbing my hand as I led him out the room.
Glancing back at the demon knife still in the room.
"One sec."
I stepped back into the room, picking up the demon knife before leaving. When I came back, Emily was staring at us like she was trying to split us open or something. I scooted behind Minh, looking over his shoulder as I stared back.
"What?"
Emily furrowed her brows, giving us a few more looks before asking, "Do you perhaps have any unique bloodline in your family that you are aware of?"
"Like elves!?" I beamed, pushing Minh aside.
Don't worry about him, he flipped me off after. But anyway, elves! I thought there were only humans in this world, but are there actually other races? Then they should know about graphien right? Maybe I can get a few more spells from them. Though, if I've only seen humans so far, they're probably really rare or something. But since we got plot armor, I'm sure we'll meet one of them eventually!
"What in the moon goddess are elves?"
And nevermind. Purely human world I guess. Goodbye catgirls, I'll miss you.
"Nevermind, what do you mean by unique bloodline?" I asked, pulling Minh back in front of me.
Emily raised a brow, looking between us before explaining, "In ancient times where the goddess Diana was present, there were creatures other than humans that existed, many of them living amongst humans and eventually having descendants. These descendants, though few now, are highly compatible with runes and powers associated with them. For example…"
She looked at me, like she was trying to cut me open and see what was inside. A chill ran up my spine, hiding further behind Minh.
"Your powers are very similar to the power within runes which could be a manifestation of a unique bloodline. Or unique eye and hair color like Leo."
"That fucking asshat?!"
...
...
...
"Ahum, sorry. Keep going," I mumbled as I shrank further behind Minh.
"... Anyway, since you two recovered pretty quickly after undergoing ceremony, I suspected you might be a descendant of one of those creatures."
After listening, me and Minh glanced at each other, checking the vibes.
So like, we go with this right?
Yes. At least this will cover up your fuck ups for a while.
Fuck you asshole.
After nodding at each other, we put on our best acting hats. And I mean Minh did the lying while I nodded along.
"We're not sure, but that may be the case. Before we came here, we lived alone with our mother in the countryside, with our father allegedly already passed. Maybe it came from him," Minh agreed, without stuttering at all.
I nodded along, keeping my eyes on the back of Minh's head. This is why I let Minh lie instead of me.
"Really? Did he appear different from most people?" Emily asked
He shook his head, "No, I don't believe so. He died when we were kids, so I wouldn't know."
Okay, that's going a little far. It's not like we didn't know him at all, I still remember him. When we were living in Vietnam, he called us everyday while he was working in the US. And he... he. He was…
Wait what?
As Minh and Emily talked, I tugged at Minh's sleeve, holding back the urge to scream. He turned around, meeting my eyes before nodding. Taking my hand, he turned back to Emily.
"Anyway, I'm still tired, so I'll be going."
She raised a brow, looking between us, "Alright, rest well."
"Sure."
After returning to my room, he grabbed my shoulders and placed me on the bed before closing the door. Turning back, he stared at me with his serious face as he leaned against the door.
"Okay, spit it out before you start screaming."
A/N
Well… this is awkward. As an apology, I will give you a second chapter later today
