"I've been having back-to-back surgeries and haven't had time for my phone. I apologize, sir," Doctor Max responded.
"It's okay. I should expect nothing less from a renowned surgeon," Nikolas said, tapping his fingers impatiently on the jewelry box on the passenger seat. "So, how is the kid doing?"
"Oh, he has been discharged…" Doctor Max said.
Nikolas pulled his brows together. "Discharged? When? Why?" he asked.
"His mother came to pick him up, and he was discharged today. I thought you were informed," Doctor Max said.
"No, I wasn't," Nikolas said, wondering why he had not gotten a call from the mother, as he remembered dropping his contact with Cassie, the babysitter.
"Oh, I'm sorry, sir. The mother said she had spoken to you, so I thought you were aware," Doctor Max said.
Nikolas exhaled deeply as he tried to piece together what he was hearing.
"Nobody called me!" he said, his voice rising a lot higher than it was supposed to.
