June's POV:
The weight of his words hit me like a blow to the chest, and for a brief moment, I felt the panic stir again, like a wave pulling me under. What if Justin didn't come out? What if the man I knew was lost inside that blood-soaked building? What if this was the person he had always been, hidden beneath the surface all along?
But I couldn't think like that. Not now. I couldn't let fear control me. I had to see him.
"I'll be okay," I muttered, even as I wasn't sure of it myself. I gave Rico a steady look, trying to reassure him, though my heart was pounding. "I just… need to see him."
Rico studied me for a long moment before nodding reluctantly. "Alright, June. You wait in the car. But I'm staying with you." He motioned to one of the men in the team. "Keep an eye on her. I'll go make sure the coast is clear."
