Chapter 151 - Chapter 151: Not Enough? Let’s Top It Off!

According to research, the key to enhancing a Pokémon's potential lies in quality, not quantity.

In other words, if an Evolution Stone doesn't reach at least a quality rating of 90, its internal energy simply doesn't meet the required standard.

Even if you add multiple stones, all you're doing is increasing the amount of energy not the grade which does absolutely nothing to activate the effect of raising a Pokémon's aptitude.

Now, using two or more high-quality Evolution Stones might slightly improve the odds, but the result is a clear case of 1 + 1 being much less than 2. With that kind of money, you'd be better off trying to obtain a single Evolution Stone that's one or two points higher in quality.

The effectiveness and success rate see a noticeable boost with each quality increment.

This principle applies to all Pokémon, regardless of whether they require an Evolution Stone to evolve or not.

Even if a Pokémon normally does need a stone to evolve, a single high-quality Evolution Stone is enough—you don't need to throw in two. As for the underlying reason, that remains unknown. Most researchers chalk it up to the mysterious nature of Pokémon evolution.

It's also worth noting that the statistical success rates mentioned above can vary depending on the Pokémon's current stage. For example, a quality-95 stone has a much better chance of boosting the potential of a strong Pokémon transitioning into the Elite Four tier, compared to one already knocking on the door of the Champion class.

Unfortunately, there's no more specific data available. Silas suspected it was because even the League's inventory was starting to run low.

No matter how deep your pockets are, you can't keep burning through resources like this forever.

Naturally, high-quality Evolution Stones are much rarer than the standard ones.

Before his Combusken evolved into Blaziken, Silas had already learned about this system. But let's be real—it just wasn't practical.

Combusken already had Champion-level potential. If he pushed it further, what would it become? A pseudo-legendary? A full-blown legendary? Silas couldn't even wrap his head around it.

So-called "pseudo-legendaries" are just powerful species that earned their name because most members grow to be strong not because every fully-evolved one can go toe-to-toe with actual legendaries.

Besides, being conservative, Silas estimated he'd need a quality-98 Evolution Stone to have any hope of boosting his Blaziken's potential and those kinds of stones? He might as well try negotiating with a legendary Pokémon itself.

Naturally, he wasn't prepared for that.

As for Pidgeot, there was nothing to say. And while his Boldore would eventually evolve into Gigalith, it'd still require a Rock-type Evolution Stone for potential enhancement. Sadly, the so-called "Special Rocks" available these days, while great for training, didn't help in this regard.

That left Snivy, the little guy who could be prepped with a high-quality Leaf Stone when evolving into Serperior.

Using a quality stone during the second evolution? Yeah… Silas wasn't that rich.

When it came to the delivery address, Silas smiled and said, "Sure, mark the recipient as Professor Rowan."

Director Baoba chuckled heartily, "Alright, no problem. Should take about a month to arrive."

After that, the two had a pleasant and friendly conversation. Both parties left feeling extremely satisfied.

"Knock knock~"

Someone knocked on the meeting room door.

Director Baoba stood and opened it, accepting a box from a staff member outside.

He shut the door again and handed the box to Silas, gesturing for him to inspect it.

Silas didn't hesitate. He opened the box right in front of him.

After a quick glance, he nodded in satisfaction three Soothe Bells, all accounted for.

Without missing a beat, he placed the Soothe Bells and the box into his spatial backpack. He didn't plan to linger much longer, so he offered a few parting words and indicated that he was ready to leave.

Director Baoba didn't try to stop him. He simply smiled as he watched the person who had brought so much "bad luck" into his day walk away.

As Silas stepped out of the Safari Zone, he couldn't help but feel that today had been ridiculously rewarding. His luck had truly been off the charts.

"Little guy, this was all thanks to you, huh?"

He patted the crown-like head of Togepi and couldn't help marveling at how soft it felt nothing like its appearance would suggest.

So satisfying… hehehe.

Petting Pokémon like this beat petting cats or dogs in his past life any day.

Thankfully, Togepi had accepted him as its Trainer. Otherwise, the spikes on its crown could release toxins.

"Toge~pi!"

Togepi chirped happily. It had understood what Silas meant earlier about the Dawn Stone.

It didn't know what "quality 95" meant, but it must be something good. This Trainer it had just acknowledged seemed like a great pick!

"Alright, with the materials and League Credits now prepared, Togepi's evolution and training are basically covered. All that's left is time."

Silas mused to himself.

As for Snivy… well, sorry little guy. You'll have to wait. This whole windfall was mostly thanks to Togepi anyway.

Because Zero had just finished scanning Togepi's full profile, and it appeared in front of Silas's eyes:

[Togepi]

Category: Spike Ball Pokémon

Type: Normal (Fairy)

Height: 0.35m (Average: 0.3m)

Weight: 1.8kg (Average: 1.5kg)

Ability: Serene Grace (With the grace of the heavens, move effects that trigger secondary effects—like flinching—are more likely to occur. Bonus: When holding a King's Rock or Razor Fang, the chance for these effects is further increased.)

Hidden Ability: Super Luck (Increases the chance of landing critical hits.)

Moves: Growl, Pound, Sweet Kiss, Life Dew, Charm, Morning Sun (Egg Move), Lucky Chant (Egg Move)

Level: 9 (Beginner)

Potential: Elite Four

The first thing Silas focused on were Togepi's ability and potential.

Seeing that Elite Four-tier potential only confirmed what he had already suspected in his heart.

As for its abilities—Serene Grace and Super Luck—it was a solid combo. If it had been Hustle as the primary ability instead, it would've raised its Attack while lowering Accuracy, which really wouldn't have synergized well with Super Luck at all.

But the real highlight was this: the effects of King's Rock or Razor Fang could be enhanced by Serene Grace.

That meant that, in the future, once Togekiss was fully evolved, any move it used with a secondary effect would benefit greatly from Serene Grace. The clearest example? Air Slash, which could cause flinching.

Pair that with Pidgeot? Tsk, the battlefield scene would be glorious.

And if it was a solo battle, he could equip Togekiss with Leftovers (to gradually recover HP during battle), combined with Life Dew, and eventually Heal Bell and Roost. It'd basically become an endless healing machine.

With Serene Grace boosting the chances of secondary effects, Air Slash and status moves like Thunder Wave would be enough to stall out any opponent. Death by attrition.

Of course, real-life battles aren't quite that simple. A lot still depends on strategy and execution in the moment.

That said, Silas had to give a special mention to Togepi's Hidden Ability Super Luck.

In battles, Super Luck simply meant a higher chance of landing critical hits. But for a Pokémon like Togepi, it also affected everyday life.

Togepi had always been known as a symbol of good fortune. Its presence alone seemed to bring luck to its Trainer and with Super Luck, that effect was magnified and accelerated.

Case in point: Silas bent down and picked up a stray 100 League Credits off the street.

"Boss! One triple-scoop ice cream cone, please! All three flavors!"

Silas walked into the ice cream shop, deciding this would be Togepi's bonus snack, like a bit of pocket money.

"Coming right up~" the shopkeeper replied, swiftly crafting a triple-flavor, triple-scoop ice cream.

"Thanks, boss!"

Silas took the cone, cradled Togepi in one arm, and held the treat up with the other. "Here, give it a try."

Togepi sniffed the ice cream, then gave it a lick with its tiny tongue. Its entire body shivered.

Oooh, so refreshing!

"Toge~pi!"

Eyes shining, Togepi grabbed the ice cream with both tiny hands it was delicious!

It happily devoured the treat, getting a full circle of cream around its mouth.

"Okay, okay—slow down," Silas coaxed gently.

He'd wanted to buy some for Snivy too, but that little guy wasn't too into ice cream.

Silas pulled out a tissue and wiped Togepi's mouth. The Pokémon didn't even notice, too focused on enjoying its snack.

Silas chuckled.

Coming back to the idea of Super Luck, he was even starting to believe that it was Togepi's blessing that led him to discover and spare that Trapinch earlier.

Every sip and bite in life has its destined course.

Looking at Togepi's moves again, it had already learned Life Dew, a rare recovery move—probably thanks to growing up among its species. That alone made Togepi an excellent addition to Silas's team.

Sure, the healing effect wasn't all that impressive just yet, but it was enough to imagine a bright future.

As for the inherited moves Morning Sun and Lucky Chant, Morning Sun allows a Pokémon to recover HP, with the amount varying depending on the current weather. Lucky Chant prevents the team from taking critical hits for a few turns both incredibly useful.

Especially Morning Sun.

As for the official "training plan" written on the profile it was more like a joke. What else could you expect? You couldn't exactly train Togepi like a normal fighter.

Unless, of course, its Metronome somehow pulled off moves like Sacred Fire (a signature move of Ho-Oh and Entei) or Aeroblast (Lugia's exclusive).

Even if that ever happened, Silas figured Togepi would probably be out cold afterward. Either from severe side effects, or the move would be so weak it wasn't even worth it.

While Silas was deep in thought, his wristwatch rang.

He glanced at the caller ID and blinked in surprise before stepping aside to answer the call.

"Hello? Brother Bruno, what's up?"

"Nothing much," Bruno replied casually while pushing Gary's head into a bucket of ice water. "I just heard you got bullied at the Safari Zone?"

"Huh? No way, Director Baoba already compensated me," Silas explained briefly.

Bruno went quiet for a moment. "You're too soft. You didn't ask for enough. Not ruthless enough. Hold on, I'll call someone. I'll make sure the Safari Zone tops it up. What you got? That's chump change."

Before Silas could respond, Bruno hung up.

"Hey, Falkner? You traveling around Fuchsia City lately?"
