Chapter 66 - Chapter 66: Continuing the Search(Bonus)

The sudden large hole that had appeared on the road was the handiwork of Silas and his three Pokémon over the past period. If not for this, and Arbok had gotten closer, Combusken might have gotten hurt.

Thankfully, it was all thanks to Roggenrola. As a Rock-type Pokémon, it had an exceptional talent for digging holes.

Otherwise, in such a short amount of time, it would've been impossible to dig a hole deep enough to trap an Arbok.

The layer of soil that had originally covered the top of the hole was also Roggenrola's work. It had manipulated some sand and stones to create a false surface.

Arbok likely sensed the energy fluctuations but may have mistaken the area for a quicksand trap, which is why it charged in headfirst without hesitation.

Following the tracks Arbok had left behind, Silas traced his way to its nest a cave.

Even before stepping inside, Silas could already smell a strong stench from outside the cave.

He silently shook his head, leaving Roggenrola and Pidgeot outside. Only Combusken followed him in.

There was no helping it the cave was too narrow inside, and Pidgeot's assistance in such confined spaces would be limited.

As for Roggenrola, it was still too weak. Otherwise, he wouldn't have brought Combusken along, but rather something like a Magcargo or a Rhyperior.

Silas put on the built-in mask from his explorer gear, and he also equipped Combusken with a specially made version. Only then did the pair head inside.

Even with the mask acting as a filter, the moment he stepped into the cave, Silas felt like he could still smell that pungent stench it might've just been psychological.

He turned on his flashlight to illuminate the interior of the cave. Inside, there were two shed Arbok skins.

After inspecting them closely, Silas's expression fell.

Neither of the Arbok skins was fresh. Even the better-preserved one had been there for at least half a month.

That meant they wouldn't be sufficient for submitting the task. In other words, he still needed to find another Arbok.

For a predator as powerful as Arbok, there usually wouldn't be more than one in a given area.

Which meant his plans to return would have to be postponed yet again.

Carrying the two shed skins, along with a poisonous fang found beneath them, Silas walked out of the cave. He took off his mask and, together with Combusken, took a deep breath of fresh air.

That place was absolutely unbearable. Still, at least it hadn't been a total loss.

He tossed the items into his backpack and walked over to Pidgeot, giving its wing a gentle pat.

"I'll leave it to you again, Pidgeot. Just like before fly out a bit farther and see if you can find another Arbok."

Pidgeot nodded and soared into the sky with a powerful flap of its wings.

Silas then sat down on the spot with Roggenrola and Combusken to take a break.

There was no other choice. Although Pidgeot was fast and had a wide field of vision, if there was an Arbok out there, it would surely spot it quickly.

But that was the catch if there was an Arbok out there.

Normally, a single hunt was enough to sustain an Arbok for several days, and they usually just hid in their nests afterward.

Even with Pidgeot, it wasn't guaranteed that one would be found.

The fact that he had managed to find this one was already a stroke of luck. Someone had posted a warning on the forums about an Arbok in this area, advising less experienced Trainers to stay away. He had seen that message and decided to give it a try.

Other Trainers weren't like him they couldn't estimate the level of wild Pokémon with some accuracy. So when it came to encountering an Arbok, most of them would avoid it at all costs, terrified of getting into trouble.

Combusken, bored, squatted down and started teasing Roggenrola.

Roggenrola, however, expressed that it was too grown-up to play those kinds of games.

In this moment of peace and calm, Silas found himself thinking that this kind of life wasn't bad at all.

More than half an hour passed, and Pidgeot still hadn't returned. It was likely still searching.

Silas checked the time it was already noon. He hurriedly pulled out a pot, bowls, and other utensils from his space backpack and began preparing lunch.

He casually pulled out two Pecha Berries and a special rock one Pecha Berry went into his mouth, and the other he tossed to Combusken. The special rock, naturally, was for Roggenrola's appetizer.

Combusken grasped the berry in its claws and immediately began eating.

While Fire-type Pokémon generally preferred spicy food, sweet-tasting Pecha Berries served perfectly well as a pre-meal treat and were never refused.

Silas took a bite out of his own berry it was indeed sweet.

He had grabbed these when he placed his order at the berry shop earlier. After all, he had studied Berry Science and had a good eye for quality.

If that shop hadn't had good-quality berries, he wouldn't have chosen to buy from there in the first place.

Next, he began preparing the special mineral blend for Roggenrola. Today's lunch formula was 10% Magmar Rock, 25% Frost Stone, and 40% Hard Rock, mixed with various other trace materials.

After weighing and combining the components, he placed them all together for Roggenrola to absorb on its own.

He set down a sturdy feeding dish in front of Roggenrola, who eagerly started devouring its mineral meal with practiced enthusiasm.

Combusken tugged on Silas's clothes with one claw. "Chow?"

"Wait a second, it's coming," Silas replied with a tired smile.

Combusken's meal was relatively simple: a mix of Chople Berries and Tamato Berries in a 2:1 ratio, along with some spicy-flavored Pokéblocks as the main course. Add a bottle of Moomoo Milk and a few nutrient tablets, and it was complete.

To be honest, Silas's hands trembled while mixing the Chople and Tamato Berries.

Let's be real raising high-potential Pokémon was a money pit.

Roggenrola's meal was expensive due to the specificity of its training path—this one meal cost about 50,000–60,000 PokéDollars worth of minerals.

But Combusken? That was just due to its sheer natural talent. Its high potential demanded premium berries.

Originally, the berry mix ratio was 3:1 Tamato to Chople. Then it shifted to 1:1. Now, it had flipped to 2:1 Chople to Tamato.

The cost increase from that alone was nearly 60%, and with Combusken's growing appetite, this one meal was around 120,000 PokéDollars.

Two meals a day meant over 7 million a month not including any additional dietary needs for training.

Silas rubbed Combusken's head and handed over the Young Fowl Pokémon's custom feeding bowl and a spoon. Combusken took the bowl in its arms, sat down next to Roggenrola, and began eating.

Next up was Pidgeot's meal. Its food centered around the enhancement of Flying- and Normal-type energy, with a mix of Starf Berries and Belue Berries as the core ingredients, supplemented by various other materials. A bottle of Moomoo Milk topped it off as a full meal.

That was about another 100,000 PokéDollars right there. Silas felt like he wasn't preparing food anymore he was feeding his Pokémon straight-up diamonds from a past life.

He pulled out a frying pan and a slab of steak, then set up a compact, portable stove.

"Hey, Combusken," he called.

Combusken quickly swallowed the food in its mouth and pranced over happily, releasing a small spark from its beak to light the flame.

Silas waved him off, and Combusken ran back over to Roggenrola's side to keep eating.

Silas shook his head with a smile. "This guy…"
