Cherreads

Chapter 17 - When Dawn Breaks

It is dawn, birds are chirping, flowers are shining, and humans are preparing for the mundane life. Unbeknownst to anybody, a warhead is primed.

Shield and related agencies had been preparing for the raid as they would for any other. They were giving briefs and reading all the required resources for the operation. It's a chilly day.

The on-site soldiers were moving with efficiency as they built defenses and set up traps covering angles they couldn't watch safely. Under Ant's command, they had been setting extra cameras inside the convenience store as well. Their actions never escaped the falcon's eyes, and as they continued setting up traps, it became clear they knew. Dawn was new as everything fell into place.

The agents were being transported in unmarked vans while bearcats made their way behind them. They were armed with flashbangs, rifles, shotguns, and even grenades. They had prepared to enter with force and packed C4 as well. It is a beautiful dawn of a new world.

6:00 am

I had been pacing around the room for enough time to form sweat. I am nervous, as much as I hate to admit it. I wish I didn't have to negotiate, but the only people with me right now are MTF, who aren't exactly trained negotiators, and guards who are a tinsy bit trained in negotiating. Now I can only negotiate because they can't make it in time to stop the raid. I would have ordered a counter-offensive to get the scps that remain inside. I really need to get a skilled planner. I'm not cut out for this.

"Listen up, the small site is definitely getting raided, and we can't make it in time to stop it, so we will try to negotiate. I won't do any of the talking, only you, unless I'm required for something." I can't articulate the tone I presented that sentence in; I am too preoccupied with drowning in possibilities. There was no reaction as I had said the same earlier, differently, for the sixtieth time now. I know they could tell I'm worried, but... Oh man, I don't know, I'm losing it ME! Calm the fuck down, the more you panic, the worse it gets, have you not learnt anything? its the first rule in jinxing yourself. I'm dying, me! If they don't accept the peace, I will lose the small site and prove I'm incompetent. If that happens, how will I expect myself to contain the future anomalies? Allow methen.

I had never been one to dwell on the what-ifs.

The mask hid the transformation; nobody could tell what had happened to Ant. The black scribbles kept changing as they usually did, but the body language gave hints of something. The room was still in motion as guards prepared for what to say when the time came, while the MTF was outside the door making the rounds on the floor. Ant had stopped pacing after he had told the guards, but now he was not there, so the person calmly sat down in a metal chair and was still.

6:30 am

Everything was prepared; now it was time to carry out the operation. The vans and bearcats were the ones to arrive first. They had swerved in and positioned themselves long ways, blocking the road while providing cover. The Bearcats positioned themselves closer and formed a line that connected both sides of the road with cover. A helicopter had been assigned to keep watch as well and was now circling above the agents and guards.

Soon after, a remote operations base was set up a little far away. As soon as the guards inside spotted the cars, they alerted the guards at the Large site and prepared for orders to be given. It told them to stay put and prepare for negotiations, and if they didn't want to wait, they were given full permission to shoot and kill as many as they could while continuing to plead for negotiation.

The guards were surprised, as from what they could tell ant was not that cold-blooded, still they followed orders, as it was not their place to question, like the chaos insurgency did. They had a serious complexion while their arms were next to their weapons and traps, which they could remotely activate.

"Everyone inside the building, come out with your hands raised. If you fail to comply, we will be forced to use lethal force." The negotiator said into the microphone behind the bearcat. The guards asked for follow-ups and then pulled out their own microphone and put it next to the phone speaker.

"Hello, I see you decided to raid one of my bases." The voice was uncharacteristically calm and eerie. It was not the voice of one of the guards. The agents didnt flinch and quickly drafted a response.

"Yes, a group killing blatantly is not something we strive to keep intact," The negotiator responded. He had caught the tone.

"The only wrong I've done is killing publicly, you aren't a hypocrite and agree, right?"

A king's jester was at play, and the hotheaded ones aren't taking kindly.

"I can't speak for all of us here, I'm just a negotiator trying to notch things down and solve things reasonably," He said ubiquitously.

"Well Ill be dammed, so am I!" A mockingbird was singing in the ears of the hotheads. All the agents present had been trained to keep their calm, but the voice on the other end really irritated them.

"Then we should begin, Mr ?"

"Call me The better one, no need to dig deep into the name, I just have an ego," the voice from the store rang out.

Both sides were stubborn, and the negotiator was not originally planned, but as traps had been set, he was sent to negotiate their removal in exchange for a lesser sentence. In the end, no deal was made, so the heads decided to just continue with the raid; they were draining resources just waiting anyway. Intelligence doesn't solve all problems.

Fury had been listening, recording the entire conversation to hand off for record-keeping and a voice search. He had made some assumptions based on the voice: first, the person was not older than 30, second, he was sharp, and lastly, he had some nerves of steel. Fury really didn't like the man behind the voice already; in fact, he was already drafting up ideas to weed him out. Fury didn't want a new Hydra.

While Alexander Pierce was not directly involved with the status of the op, his men had been reporting, and from what he heard, he was already grinning from ear to ear, like a Cheshire cat. Maybe Fury had not caught it, but he had; he heard the voice say something that was clearly aimed at Hydra.

[In the sky]

A man of iron was making its way to the scene. Tony Stark has been preparing for a decisive victory over the hooligans in the building before they could do anything outlandish and stupid. He was ready to carpet bomb the hell out of the building with micro bombs, if need be. He still has not recovered from his kidnapping.

The dawn painted the sky red and illuminated it with the color of explosions, yet the contrast was present as chills swept the grouped agents and Stark himself inside the iron suit. Something was not right, but that was not something to be worried about.

[With It]

Worry is not something that is needed at this moment. I would have tried harder negotiating if I hadn't discovered something curious.

[Warning! Detected that Site xxxxxxxxxxx is being raided, do you wish to begin the countdown?]

Nuclear warheads would save the world today. Weapons of mass destruction saving the world, now that was something that truly contrasts.

Begin the countdown.

[Countdown initiated 5:00]

[Note: a small site does not carry a warhead, just missiles that are primed.]

I take back what I said. Maybe another day, I will have the pleasure of detonating a warhead. I hate sharing. I wonder what the other would think of me?

SO what could I say to lessen the confusion? Honestly I wholeheartedly believe this was a good choice okay? Ant needed an ability because the next scp is not an easy one, and also because I think it makes the story more interesting.
