Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

After a brief introduction and asking Vegeta for some time to discuss an urgent matter, Glynda found herself sitting at the table of a house that could only be described as luxurious while observing her surroundings attentively for more than just the décor.

Counting exits and scouting out the place was more than a habit; it was an obligation that came with the paranoia of being a Huntress, especially when you considered the fact that she was weakened at the moment.

Which was perhaps an unfounded concern, considering she was in the home of an ally, but you never know.

Huntsman or not, this man was still someone shrouded in mystery and too powerful to take lightly.

That and he's dangerous... in many ways. Glynda couldn't help but adjust her glasses to get a better look at this little mountain of muscle, whose training clothes he was wearing seemed to be on their limit, about to rip to shreds with the mere act of preparing appetizers to serve her. Besides being someone dedicated to his physical training, he also seemed to know his way around a kitchen.

It might be wrong to judge based on appearances, but it was hard to imagine that such a man could handle domestic chores. However, she supposed that having a family could change a person and that was something worth admiring from afar...or up close.

"Coffee?" Vegeta offered after placing a tray of goodies on the table, this being a habit of courtesy on Earth that he ended up keeping after so long. Something that could save your world.

Just think of Beerus and his attitude towards hospitality. That was more than enough justification to maintain this level of cordiality.

"Pure, no sugar." Normally, Glynda preferred tea, but considering how tired she was, caffeine was something she needed, and badly. "Thank you," she said as she took a sip of the drink that had been made just right and almost felt revitalized by it. "You have a beautiful house."

One that was as big as it was beautiful, she should say.

Considering that this is a noble area where only extremely wealthy people live, it's not surprising. Unfortunately, this made Glynda start to wonder where the money used to finance all this came from. Certainly, the result of an inheritance that comes with the title of Prince.

Being a descendant and the sole survivor of an ancient monarchy had to have some benefits, after all.

At least, that's what she wanted to believe, and she didn't intend to investigate the matter further, this being a professional courtesy on her part and in consideration of the losses Vegeta had experienced; losses that certainly remained deeply rooted.

The lack of family photos around indicated as much. That and the house, although beautiful, felt... lonely, empty even, despite everything inside, and that made this man similar to Ozpin, who seemed to have everything, but at the same time, had nothing but a goal considered impossible.

That was a sad thing to consider, and unfortunately, the reality of many people who had chosen to fight against the darkness of this world.

"A...friend of mine made a point of building it that way." Whis was a perfectionist and extravagant like that, Vegeta knew. He had that in common with Bulma. This explained a little bit more about the friendship that those two used to have. "So," he sipped from his own coffee before resting his cup on the table and deciding to change the subject for obvious reasons, "What is it that Beacon's Deputy Headmistress wants with me?"

A rhetorical question, really. He could already imagine the answer that justified this woman's presence, where he just wanted to know if the girls had really talked about him after the condition he had imposed.

It would be foolish of them to break their promise to him, but they certainly knew better, and only that blonde girl could have let her tongue loose.

The resentment in her lilac eyes that glowed red was great like that when she left this place, and not without reason.

Straight to the point? I can't blame him for that. In fact, Glynda even respected this man for maintaining professionalism, regardless of the sad motive behind his actions. "As you may be aware, after the golden anomaly, things aren't going too well out there." As an example, she had her Scroll in hand, which strangely wasn't connecting with the CCT database, to show the map of Remnant she had and the markings of the most affected locations. "The Grimm in Vale, Vacuo, and Mistral who have been exposed to the golden light have become more active and violent than usual, which has resulted in a great deal of pressure on our defenses and settlements..." she paused, her hands visibly tensing with the frustration of not being able to be on the front lines helping and guilt for letting her feelings distract her at such an important time. "Many people, whether human or faunus, are suffering and even dying out there as we speak."

Vegeta took the Scroll offered by the woman and had his eyes scanning the map with numerous areas marked in red. Using this information as a reference, if he concentrated, Vegeta could identify the battlegrounds beyond this city and...the lives being lost.

"Vale needs its defenders more than ever; every single one of them." Otherwise, if it continued the way it was, Remnant could take another step towards its end, and Glynda would do what she could to prevent that from happening. "That's why I'm asking you to join the battle once again!"

With that, she ended her speech and plea for help, only to receive no immediate response. At least, not one in words, because suddenly, the temperature in the room was rising in an unnatural way.

The strangest thing about this phenomenon was identifying the cause and understanding that this man in front of her had taken the metaphor of being hot to another level, where he was literally emitting waves of heat!

The energy emanating from his body was that absurd, and Glynda found herself as fascinated as she was frightened by this unexpected display of power.

As for Vegeta, he already knew that there was something going on outside, but he had no idea that the situation was that bad, and his emotions responded accordingly, regardless of the fact that he had promised to keep himself under control.

It seems that no matter where I go, tragedy and destruction always follow me. At this point, it almost felt like a curse when, in fact, it was just the result of his weakness and thoughtless actions. Even after everything that has happened, I'm still the same...

His weakness lay in the fact that he was unable to control himself just because this world reminded him of Earth, and that it gave him a shadow of what he had lost in the form of Weiss and Ruby.

Because of that, he let himself get carried away by unleashing his frustration in a pathetic attempt at revenge against that blonde girl who reminded him of the clown, even if very little, and dared to hurt his pride, which couldn't have been more shattered at this point.

As a result, this world was paying the price.

Pathetic.

Vegeta should be better than that!

He should be more!

Instead, there he was, repeating the same mistakes of the past!

Damn it! Vegeta almost let his power explode out of his body before forcing himself to stop as the Scroll crackled in his hands. No! No more! He closed his eyes and took a deep breath as he refused to keep walking in that same direction! Especially now!

There were more important things that required his attention.

However, before he could rise from his chair and fly off to clean up his mess, the woman who had alerted him to his mistake had something completely unexpected to say.

"Calm down, Vegeta!" Glynda urged, even forgetting to use honorifics as she saw and felt this man's blood-red aura reach impossible levels of intensity! "I understand that you must be angry at remembering the loss of your family, but letting yourself be consumed by your emotions won't help at all!"

Unexpectedly, her words seemed to have had the desired effect, especially when she saw the man's deadly serious expression turn to pure shock.

Unfortunately, that didn't last, and it wasn't long before the Scroll in his hands was completely destroyed, his eyes narrowing dangerously to the point of glowing blue for no more than a moment.

"How...do you know about that?" he had to exert control over every fiber of his being not to allow himself to do something he would regret and force this woman to answer. "About my family?"

Everyone who held such information was half a universe away, so how did a woman from a planet forgotten by the gods know about it?

Unless she dealt with magic or was an angel in disguise like Merus, that shouldn't be possible.

"My sincerest apologies for bringing up bad memories and approaching this subject lightly; that wasn't my intention," Glynda was quick to try and dissuade the situation that her lack of tact had created, being hit by more than just guilt. I should have chosen my words better!

The last thing she wanted right now was to get on the bad side of this man whose power clearly exceeded all her expectations!

"As for how I know about this." She opened a folder she had brought with her, which turned out to be a wise decision since her Scroll had become completely useless, and retrieved some files before presenting them to this man. "Since you're a licensed Huntsman, naturally, we have all your information in our system."

Vegeta doubted that very much, but only until he had these papers in his hands, then he went through everything that was written about him and found himself at a loss for words.

Suddenly, the suspicions and anger he had and felt towards this woman disappeared without a trace. When he finally understood what was happening, it all came back and more. The difference, however, was that all this was no longer being redirected at Glynda but at someone else; another entity.

One that should only be the object of his gratitude and nothing more.

Whis... Vegeta clutched these papers in his hands, hardly able to believe that Angel had done something so unnecessary. Why did he create a backstory using my life as a basis?

Vegeta had no interest in joining the society of this world!

Even if Whis believed that such a trivial thing was necessary, why the hell didn't he just 'make it up' or lie about it!?

It was something so simple and obvious that anyone could have done it, especially an Angel!

Or so he wanted to believe until something equally obvious occurred to him.

Whis was an Angel, a divine entity whose common sense couldn't be applied.

In that case, and considering that an Angel couldn't directly intervene in pretty much anything, perhaps they were also incapable of lying?

So Whis only did what he could... to help.

Just like he always does.

But of course he did... Vegeta sighed and let the papers fall to the table, his free hand now resting on his face as he felt like an irredeemable idiot. "Glynda, was it?" he asked just to be sure, and the woman who didn't deserve to have been yet another victim of his emotions nodded in confirmation. "Who else knows about this?"

The last thing Vegeta needed was more people from this world showing up on his doorstep and talking about it or, even worse, those girls finding out.

He didn't need and didn't want to be the target of their condolences and pity.

Vegeta already had enough of that back on Earth and even from the God of Destruction.

"You...don't have to worry about that," Glynda assured as she visibly relaxed, feeling as if she could finally breathe freely. "Only those high up can get this kind of information, and only under extremely specific conditions like the ones we're in." Truth be told, if it hadn't been for this crisis in which all help was needed, Vegeta would probably still be just one of many who preferred to disappear into anonymity. "For what it's worth, I can guarantee that this information will never, by any means, be divulged to anyone else."

Allowing something like that to happen would be unethical and disrespectful to a fellow Hunter who clearly wants to remain anonymous, especially one whom no one would want to have as an enemy.

"That's all I need to hear." Vegeta then stood up and made his way towards the staircase that led to the second floor of his house. "I'll be right back."

Before an answer could be given, he was out of sight, and Glynda almost collapsed where she was sitting.

That was dangerous... She looked down at her hand and found herself trembling, where she could even hear her heart beating and feel cold sweat, brought on by the fear she had long forgotten, trickling down her back. If he wanted to... I'd be dead now!

It didn't matter if she was tired or not; the power she felt in Vegeta was overwhelming like that!

Really, how could such a monster have remained hidden for so long?

Even if Vegeta wasn't an enemy, Ozpin needed to know about his capabilities as soon as possible!

After all, there was a chance that this very man was involved or at least knew something about the golden anomaly.

Unfortunately, that would have to wait now that her Scroll had been destroyed.

Something to worry about later. For now, Glynda just wanted to get out of this house in one piece and, if possible, with a powerful ally by her side. If he were to join the battle, I'm sure there would be a change in our favor.

So all she could do was raise her hopes and wait, where every second resounded with the beating of her heart.

It had been a long time since Glynda had felt this kind of anxiety or been affected by fear.

In the few minutes that they interacted, Prince Vegeta was able to make her relive all of that and more.

This man was proving to be dangerous like that.

Speak of the devil, it wasn't long before he returned, this time dressed in what she could only describe as a combat outfit; one that was as dark as his hair, in a pants and tank top combination that clung to his body to show off even more of his mass defined to the limit.

"I'm ready," Vegeta finished fixing his white boots and gloves before cracking his fingers into a fist. "Let's go."

Exterminate some ridiculous insects that dared to rebel even after being exposed to the light of his power.

Those creatures should have known better and fled back into the darkness where they belonged.

Since that wasn't the case, Vegeta would have to instill fear into those things by erasing a good portion of them from existence.

That would be the price paid for crossing his path.

The rest would be left for the girls to deal with.

Nothing could be fairer, he supposes.

As for Glynda, she almost jumped out of her seat, her motivation restored by the meaning behind this man's words and actions!

Vegeta was going to join the fight!

"Excellent! But... what about your weapon?" Despite her excitement, Glynda couldn't help but wonder when she was unable to identify one in the man's possession. In fact, now that she thought about it, the reports didn't mention anything about a weapon, and the possible meaning of this made her a little apprehensive. "You... have one, right?"

This man couldn't be that much of an anomaly, could he?

The answer to her question was one that Glynda would never forget as long as she lived.

"Weapon?" Vegeta almost scoffed as he stopped in his tracks and looked at this woman over his shoulder; his energy emanating like steam from his body in a way capable of distorting the surrounding air before he pointed to himself. "You're looking at it."

The same answer he gave the girls back in the cafeteria was still the purest truth.

There was hardly anything better than living flesh whose limit was unknown to depend on, and only when the people of this world understood that could they break out of their shells and perhaps become something more.

That and overcome the barrier created by the power of the soul.

Fortunately, the seed of change had already been planted in Weiss and Ruby, so it was only a matter of time.

As for Glynda, she found herself unable to say anything about this nonsense and could hardly believe that her heart had skipped a beat.

It seemed that once again, this man had been able to get an unexpected reaction out of her.

Slowly, Vegeta was proving to be a real threat to her health.

Hopefully, he would be even worse for the Grimm.

Glynda and many people were counting on it.

Outside, in the courtyard of the house, Vegeta stopped and focused on this woman who was following him closely.

"What do you intend to do now?" he asked just out of curiosity because he could tell that, despite her outstanding strength in this world, she wasn't in a position to do much at the moment. "Accompany me to join the battle?"

The way she clutched the folder in her hands said enough.

"I...wish I could." Glynda hated having to stand aside when even Ozpin was still outside, risking being targeted by the agents and the Grimm controlled by Salem. "But I just got back from there and...I'm almost exhausted." Everyone had a limit; she just happened to have reached hers when facing monstrous opponents who appeared when no one expected them and forced her hand. "If I go back now, I'll end up hindering more than helping."

Admitting that was harder than Glynda would like to admit, and it was at times like this that she wished she specialized in more than just combat.

As a doctor, for example, she would have been able to help even without having Aura.

Although... All she had to do was look at the man she had managed to convince to fight again, even if it was for the wrong reason, when she had awakened his thirst for revenge, and remember the power he had that changed everything. Coming here was worth it.

That way, even indirectly, she was able to help and improve the current situation.

As for Vegeta, he couldn't help but be taken aback by this woman's response.

This world... is different from Earth. For the first time since he arrived in Remnant, he noticed something that should have been obvious at this point, but which was evident from Glynda's frustration. The women of this world are much stronger, almost like...it used to be on planet Vegeta.

That was all he needed to know.

"Very well." Vegeta admired her determination and was even grateful that she had helped change his perspective, but he didn't intend to waste a Senzu on her, which possibly wouldn't work given the non-physical nature of her exhaustion, or unlock her Ki. I don't know her, and I honestly don't intend to teach anyone other than those girls without an excellent reason. One much greater than a mere sense of gratitude for Glynda having helped open his eyes. "If possible, I'd like to see you again, under better circumstances, and talk a bit more."

By doing so, he could further his knowledge of Aura and improve his training method.

"I..." It took a lot for Glynda not to be shaken by the insinuation behind this request. "I wouldn't mind."

In the end, her curiosity about this man was that big, and no one could blame her for it.

Especially when you consider what he did next.

"It's settled then." Vegeta flashed a satisfied little smile and released his Ki, letting his life energy burn in white flames embroidered in the blood red of his Saiyan pride, his eyes glowing a pure sky blue from the combination of flesh and soul powers. "I'll see you later."

With that said, he shot off into the sky and disappeared into the clouds.

"W-what in the world?!" Glynda could hardly believe her eyes as she shielded her face and struggled to stand up against the wind pressure resulting from this abrupt display of power! "He...can really fly!"

The theory that Vegeta was the flying figure who appeared in Vale last week was just confirmed right before her eyes!

So what else could he do? Probably everything that was written in the description of his Semblance.

If it weren't for the color of his Aura, a strange combination of red and white, Glynda would have been more than willing to bet that he was also responsible for the golden anomaly.

Fortunately, this same power would be used to give the Grimm hell, and that was all that mattered.

For now.
