"My lady! Please, you can't be walking around just yet—" Adelle's voice trembled as she struggled to keep pace with Ava, her eyes shimmering with worry.
Her hands fluttered helplessly in the air, hovering just behind Ava like she might catch her if she stumbled. "You're still recovering—please, just sit down!"
But Ava was a whirlwind of motion—pale, stubborn, and seething with a fury that kept her upright even as her knees occasionally buckled. She moved from her cabinet to her bed, flinging dresses down in quick succession, as if choosing armor for battle.
"I don't have time to lie around, Adelle," Ava snapped, her voice low and sharp, the corners of her eyes glinting with fatigue and fury. "I have to do something. I brought that bonsai fucking tree into Zach's home. I did that. I let that fucking thing in. Whatever Shen is doing, he's studying Zach's house. He's mapping something, I can feel it."
Adelle reached out and lightly touched her elbow. "But, my lady—"
