Ethan stared at the jagged readout. Static kept breaking through the image, like something was trying to erase itself even as they scanned it.

"I'm not sure of anything anymore," Maya said dryly. "But the signal that led us to the Observer originated from deep-layer code embedded in the relay's AI stack. That's Dr. Cross's signature — your father."
