"I don't want to talk about that," Raine whispered.
Killian exhaled slowly, dragging a hand through his dark hair. "You don't have a choice anymore. I know who you are. And I've kept bigger secrets than this, Raine. But I need the truth."
Silence stretched thick in the room. Outside, wind howled through the stone halls of the dormitory.
"He was my twin," she lied at last, her voice breaking and getting into an act."He died the night before the academy entrance trials. They… they killed him thinking it was me."
Killian's eyes widened, his entire body going still.
"They?" he echoed.
Raine nodded slowly, eyes distant. "A faction. I don't know who. My family… we were part of something bigger. Something dangerous. Like a cult. When I was born, there was a prophecy. The first-born daughter would destroy an empire built in shadow. My father was so after protecting his packs and legacy that he wants me dead. So they came for me. Only… they got him instead."
Killian's breath caught in his throat.
"So you came in his place," he murmured.
"To find out who did it," she said, blinking back tears. "To finish what he couldn't. And to survive."
For a moment, Raine concealed her thoughts knowing fully well now that Killian could read her mind.
Then Killian let out a low, bitter laugh. "You are insane."
"What? I'm serious."
"I should report you. You're a fraud, a liar, and you're in danger. We're in danger now because of you."
"I didn't ask you to wait in my bed and what the hell do you mean we are in danger?," she snapped.
"No, but I did," he said, voice rough. "Not Because I cared. Because I felt something, and I didn't understand it. I thought I was going crazy— You messed with my head."
Raine swallowed, guilt flooding her chest. " What the hell do you mean? You are not making any sense Killian. You are freaking me out dude"
" Yeah you should be freaked out "
"You think I wanted this?" she shouted, stepping closer. "You think I enjoy looking over my shoulder every second, wondering if tonight's the night they realize I'm not male? I didn't come here to make friends or play games—I came to survive."
Killian scoffed. "Oh, right. So noble. Playing vigilante while dragging the rest of us into your suicide mission.. I honestly don't wanna be an accomplice to your lies"
"I didn't ask for your involvement—"
"You didn't have to ask!" he barked. "You made me part of it the second you became my roommate "
Raine's hands clenched at her sides. "I didn't have a choice!"
"There's always a choice," Killian growled.
"Oh, please." She sneered. "Like you're one to talk about honesty."
That stopped him cold. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"I've seen the way you flinch when someone bleeds too close to you in training. And don't think I didn't notice the sigils tattoos you keep hidden under your sleeves."
Killian's face twisted, eyes flashing. "Careful."
"Why?" she hissed. "Because you've got a secret too?"
He stepped forward sharply, too fast for a normal person—so fast the air stirred. And just for a second, his lips curled back in a snarl, revealing fangs.
Raine froze.
The air between them turned colder. Her breath caught in her throat. She dint except her hunch to be true.
Killian immediately stepped back, pressing a hand to his mouth, but it was too late. The damage was done.
Her voice came out hoarse. "You're—"
"No." He turned away. "You didn't see anything."
"You're a vampire." She said it like a curse, disbelief and fury twisting her face. "That's why you were so interested in me. Is my blood special?"
"You don't know what you're talking about."
"Don't I?" she snapped. "You said we're in danger—maybe it's you they're after, not me. Maybe I should report your ass. This is not a vampire academy and you know fully well the burning hatred between vampires and werewolves. No wonder you killed your way In
Killian turned back, his expression stone-cold now, mask slipping entirely. "Go ahead. Let's both see how long we last once everyone knows what we are. In my defense, I'm a hybrid with with a strong vampire bloodline. But you..."
Raine's knees buckled slightly, and she reached out to steady herself against the bedpost. Killian's brow furrowed.
"Raine?"
"I'm fine," she murmured, though her voice lacked strength. Her skin had gone pale, almost ashen, and sweat began to bead along her hairline.
Killian stepped forward instinctively, concern replacing his earlier tension. "No, you're not. What's wrong?"
"I… I think I just need to sit—" She swayed again, this time more violently, and before she could finish her sentence, her eyes rolled back and her body crumpled forward.
"Raine!"
Killian caught her just before she hit the ground. Her body was too warm, burning with fever. Her breathing was shallow and irregular.
"Shit," he cursed under his breath, gathering her limp form in his arms and carrying her to the bed.
He paused, glancing at the door. The Academy's health centre was out of the question—They has rejected her previously because she had no heart beat
And if Raine's secret got out… she wouldn't make it to sunrise.
Gritting his teeth, Killian placed her gently on the bed, brushing damp strands of hair from her face. Her skin was hot,
Infection? Exhaustion? Poison?
He didn't know. But he'd been trained in more than just swordplay.
He moved swiftly, grabbing a small pouch from the hidden compartment beneath his bed. Inside were vials of powdered herbs, salves, and a few items that would raise eyebrows if found. He'd smuggled them in for emergencies—he just never expected to use them on her.
Few minutes later, she wasn't up. The medicine didn't work on her. Her heart was beating faintly and he could barely feel her pulse.
There was no certainty she would live. She wasn't healing like a normal werewolf.
The only option was to heal her with his Vampire blood.
