At that moment, Abigail's voice softened. Her eyes, steady and clear, met Rebecca's as she slowly nodded her head. "I can assure you," she said quietly but firmly, "I am not going to hurt Jerry in the future. That much is certain."
There was no trace of hesitation in her tone, and it wasn't spoken out of pressure or fear, it came from somewhere deep, a place of sincere commitment and love. Abigail clasped her hands on her lap, took a small breath, and continued, "I don't think you know just how much I value Jerry, Rebecca. Maybe you haven't seen it yet, but Jerry means a whole lot to me. He's more than just a man I married. I see him as someone who needs protection too. I know people might think he's strong or silent or distant, but to me, he's someone I want to shield with everything I've got."
Rebecca didn't interrupt. She simply watched Abigail closely, studying every word, every flicker of emotion on her face.
