Jerry shifted uncomfortably in his seat, unsure whether to brace himself or smile. With Rebecca, it was always both.
Rebecca straightened her posture, her fingers tapping lightly against the table as she spoke.
"The first one is very simple. I want to meet your wife."
Jerry raised a brow in confusion, and she quickly added, "No—you're not going to be there. I want to talk to her personally. One-on-one. Just her and me."
Jerry blinked. "Why?"
Rebecca let out a small scoff, as if he should've known the answer already. "Because if she's going to be part of your life, then I need to know who she is. I want to know the kind of person you gave your heart to without even saying a word to me. I want to look into her eyes and understand the kind of woman she is, what she stands for, and if she even knows the man she married. This isn't about jealousy or old feelings, Jerry. This is about me protecting someone I care about."
Jerry's mouth opened, but he didn't speak. Rebecca continued.
