The streets were a mess, with ruins and rubble everywhere. Collapsed stone fragments and charred wooden beams from the fires of destruction teetered precariously in the morning breeze.
Bodies lay scattered on the ground, twisted and lifeless—men, women, the elderly, children.
In the chaos of last night's battle, the rebels breached the Royal Palace, were repulsed by the guards, only to attack again. Both sides engaged in a tug-of-war, their bloody conflict spreading beyond the palace walls into the city and eventually into the common people's homes.
The powerless elderly, women, and children were dragged from their dreams into the battlefield, ending up as corpses without knowing why or how.
