"You've raised a wonderful daughter!"
After the four of them sat down on the sofa, Callix Linton was the first to break the somewhat awkward silence. As soon as he opened his mouth, he began praising Lily Turner to Sophia Wood, "This girl is sensible, kind, and very considerate."
Pausing for a moment, he then continued, "You've done a terrific job raising her."
After complimenting Lily Turner, Mr. Linton did not forget to praise Sophia Wood as well.
Whether praising the daughter or the mother, he was sincere, without a hint of insincerity or any ulterior motives.
Sophia Wood was not blind; how could she not see Callix Linton's sincerity? She smiled, though it was a slightly awkward smile, "She's not as good as you say, you flatter us."
The daughter was so domineering, yet the father was so gentle and kind.
