Everything happened so fast, I didn't even realize when I found myself outside the quarters, standing and waiting for my carriage. When it finally arrived, Marissa placed my luggage inside without a word. We were both quiet. Maybe we wanted to say something, but nothing came out. It was clear—we were going to miss each other, but we just stayed silent.
Rania came forward and helped me into the carriage. That surprised me. She didn't need to, but I knew she was only doing it for her brother's sake. She wanted to keep him happy.
"Is there a way you can convince the king to release Rosalind and Fortuna?" I asked before I could stop myself. She shook her head without hesitation. I felt foolish the moment the words left my mouth. I should never have asked. Ever since the king locked them up, I hadn't stopped thinking about them.
