The undead appearing in front of Lynch and Kuboert were essentially the higher-ups of the Undead Clan. They weren't like the skeletons or zombies, who could only act on instinct. These undead had their own intelligence, they could think and learn, growing stronger with each battle.
These guys, having endless time to squander, became increasingly terrifying. When facing these entities, one had to concentrate fully to keep their life intact.
