At dinner, Delphine unusually saw Bessie Leclair. Bessie had cut her hair into a chic short style and permed it into small curls like a pear blossom. With her skin tanned to a honey color, she looked like the trendy "tanned beauty" of the day.
Bessie had returned to get some things. She went upstairs, grabbed her belongings, and saw Delphine watching two children play from the corridor. Swinging her small bag, she came up to her and said lightly, "Aren't you going to thank me? If it weren't for me, you'd still be stuck in that shabby house in the mountains."
Delphine was taken aback and replied softly, "It was you?"
"Of course it was me. Did you think eldest brother's people would help you pass a message?" Bessie sneered and said coldly, "During the days you were missing, Jocelyn Yeager put a lot of pressure on the Leclair Family, and thanks to you, my assets have shrunk."
