Chapter 30 - Chapter 29: Commandant Steele, the PhaseSummon Siren

Long Siren lore Author Note:

- as of Borderlands 4, a lot of new lore on Siren's have now been revealed. Most notably their powers. It can potentially be any power, and not specifically locked to the previous user's version. Only if it is passed down by an inheritance to a trained and prepared apprentice like The Eldest passed on the PhasWalk to Lilith as a kid, and Maya passed on PhaseLock to Ava, and Angel sorta passed on PhaseShift to Tannis - but that was only since the two were near identical so the power remained the same since the two were more similar to one another by default. Although, Queen Dido was the previous PhaseLock Siren before Maya, so it was purely coincidence that Maya had the same power.

Commandant Steele most likely died, her Siren soul/power went to the next host, but they died at some point between all the games timelines since it would be logical for it to go to Vex in Borderlands 4. Vex at the time was talking out loud about horror fantasies and themes and the power subconsciously reacted to her thoughts at the time she gained the powers which gave her PhaseFamiliar.

Steele and the woman that obtained Steele's Siren Soul between the games probably had a different Phase power variant but it does follow a certain trend. Hence why I had a previous theory that Steele, being a military person, would naturally have a ability to summon minions or an army or even materialise constructs.

Turns out my predictions were 100% correct as Vex has PhaseFamiliar. Summons a single powerful Familiar or summons multiple from souls to make clones of Vex and the third skill tree is like a 'PhaseBlast' that just inflicts powerful damage. That is why Steele will have what I call 'PhaseSummon - the materialisation beings or constructs to side the Siren in battle.'

As for Nyriad and her PhaseLeech power. It remained the same because Nyriad let herself die of age within the Vault of the Serpent so her Siren Soul and power can't find a new host as it is isolated with the separate dimensional space of the Vault. Hence over the many years it remained imprisoned it simply grew in its stable connection of PhaseLeech maintaining the power variant until it possessed Tyreen as its new host while still within a pregnant Leda DeLeon.

In the Comics and the cancelled MMO game. There were a few Sirens that are Non Cannon. One can PhaseSummon a small Phoenix familiar creature which obviously inspired and was used for Vex in B4. While in the comics there was a Siren that can PhaseControl all living creatures on Pandora. She was strong enough she saves the Vault Hunters from a Raak Hive by controlling it and can even control armies of Skags and wildlife creatures.

Amara is the only one we don't know anything about of the previous inheritors before her. Anyhow, that's enough lore dump but still necessary since I like to be lore accurate in things.

"You have disobeyed and rejected my warnings. The contents of the Vault are rightfully the property of the Atlas Corporation. Surrender the Vault Key now and I'll spare your lives." Commandant Steele said in a commanding yet provocative tone as she pointed towards us.

The others had already readied their weapons at our unexpected guests.

Master McCloud and a few soldiers beside him took aim at Roland.

Modecai and Bloodwing had a stare down with Krom and Baron Flynt.

Baron Flynt's two Badass Bruiser-type bodyguards, Franz who carries a machine gun while Hanz uses a giant sword for melee along with hand grenades. The duo had their sights on Brick, as the slab of meat himself held Sledge's Shotgun in one hand along with his large hammer in the other.

As for Lilith, she didn't have a direct opponent as she was fully aware of whom she would be dealing with. She would have to protect Tannis while simultaneously dealing with the legion of Crimson Lance troops and Bandits that had also came with their leaders.

As for me, I will be dealing with Commandant Steele, I could either deal with her myself, or stall her to receive help from Lilith once she is done.

As of now, Commandant Steele is on par with me in mastery over her powers as she relentlessly trained in them, while I technically cheated and spent decades under Time Dilation in the Honkai world.

In addition, I had my numerous upgrades and augments in body and gear, so while I was being too overly cautious about this, a Siren isn't to be taken likely.

The staredown that lasted for a minute was broken by the angry cursing of the smartest person on the planet.

"Go to Hell you albino bitch!"

Tannis roared as she took out her handgun and fired a shot at Steele.

That broke the stalemate and all Hell broke loose.

A shimmering ethereal silver round shield materialised in front of her which blocked the bullet before it hit.

Roland deployed his Saber Turret as he took cover behind its shield. Bloodwing took flight as Mordecai took cover to hide from Krom and Flynt as they attacked him.

Brick charged in towards Hanz while he used his shotgun to pressure Franz in delaying his assault while Brick closed the distance.

Lilith meanwhile entered PhaseWalk and began slaughtering the soldiers all around, they did put some pressure on her from time to time as she did have to exit and re-enter PhaseWalk, though she had experience with this in the past and with her recent training she was better now than she previously was.

As for me, Tannis took cover as I used my control over space to manipulate the ground to form a artificial dome around Tannis while I reinforced it with a Vector barrier.

I took out Calamity, my modified handgun and unloaded it at Steele.

She wasn't idle as she dodged to the side and took cover behind some upturned destroyed debris of the Vault gateway.

I felt a surge of power coming from Steele as she hid behind cover, and moments later dozens of numerous swords of ethereal silver energy came like homing projectiles around from her hiding place and directly towards me, just like Atlas manufactured weapons.

Teleporting away from my current location, I appeared near the broken Vault archway, my Siren wings manifested on my back as I took flight.

No regular bullets or even elemental ones can bypass my Vector barrier that protected me, only another Siren or something if sufficient power can overwhelm its defences.

Extending my hand as if grasping something, a large ethereal hand of pitch black and purple energy formed under Steele's location as the fingers jotted out off the ground, I clenched my fist and the hand closed around her.

I could use even more destructive abilities and outright kill her as she won't be able to teleport away like i can, just like how I created a Black Hole to destroy Sledge and his base.

However, as predicted she too used her Siren wings to take flight to the skies and evade the giant hand. It was then that I finally got to use one of the many abilities and moves i had been re-creating using my Siren powers of PhaseSpace-Time and PhaseCreate.

"Secret Hado, Number Three, Teppusatsu! (Iron Wind Wall"

As I said that, the mental image of using the words to more easily visualise special and complex abilities made materialising my power far easier.

A green head made of an wind-type energy manifested beside me, the giant head's cheeks inflated like a puffer fish before quickly expelling vast amounts of condensed air towards Steele.

Steele, due to being in the air, was pushed back by the torrents of immense wind crashing into her as she collided with the rocky terrain of the mountain side.

I teleported to Steele's unconscious body so that I can deal with her by restraining her powers temporarily.

[Raime the Key!] I heard Angel's voice echo in my head.

I instantly turned around…

*click*

But it was too late…and I was shocked by what I saw.

Someone who never should have even been here was here now. A mysterious cloaked figure from head-to-toe was wearing a strange mask that was made of bone, while a pair of old grey wings sprouted from its back.

Whoever this person was had been able to sneak past everyone during the battle and open the Vault, but why?

Everyone stopped their fighting as the Vault archway began to assemble itself from its scattered pieces that littered the area, and slowly yet rapidly they bagan to levitate and connect to one another, forming an flipped 'V' symbol as the archway.

During this time, none of us, especially me, attacked the figure on the pedestal where the Vault Key was inserted.

The archway erupted with life as purple energy rippled between it forming a portal, slowly yet surely tentacles and spikes exited the Portal as its partial form was revealed.

The Destroyer emerged from the portal yet still trapped, as only a single eye and mouth was seen.

The man on the Pedestal raised his arms as if in worship to The Destroyer and offered themself up as a sacrifice.

"For the Ancestor!"

The person screamed aloud, which was cut short as The Destroyer launched a tentacle that skewered the man, judging by the voice, and lifted him aloft into the air before swiftly devouring him.

The Destroyer was a dimensional entity that had a ravenous hunger and could devour even the stars themselves.

With each being and civilization it devoured, it absorbed their memories and intelligence for itself.

Now, that was shown on full display as The Destroyer's form began to grotesquely melt and break apart as chunks of its form began falling off and scattered the surroundings.

The Destroyer's form broke down until…it resembled something else.

A man, one without facial features except a wide open jaw, tentacles that sprouted from its back, while a few went from his form and directly through the portal. Most likely it was still trapped and its core being is on the other side of the portal, while this form here and now is just an extension of itself.

Two fleshy wings made of numerous tendrils extended from its back while its skin was like flesh made from obsidian scales and rock.

"Fuck that! I'm not staying here!" Krom was the first to sense the danger as he immediately chose to flee.

Master McCloud and some of the underlings that were still alive chose to flee as well. Meanwhile, only Baron Flynt, Hanz and Franz chose to stay behind.

A decision that was very wise as only when the fleeing individuals had almost reached the tunnel that led into the ground and back down the pathway where they came from, they halted and started screaming out in pain as one by one alien like octopuses similar in form to The Destroyer's original form bursted out of their heads, killing them instantly.

Something didn't feel right, so I used PhaseSpace to check every single molecule in my own body, and that's when I found it, not just inside me, but within the surrounding atmosphere and in the others as well!

It was a miniature microorganism that was rapidly growing inside us.

The only reason we aren't dead yet like the others was because we were sufficiently stronger and our mental state was acting subconsciously in preventing the organisms growth inside us.

"They're inside us! Get close to me now!" I yelled and everyone present didn't hesitate to do as I said.

When they were close enough I used PhaseTime to rewind time on our bodies before The Destroyer took on this new infectious form. I then made a Space-Time barrier around everyone before I teleported inside the protective dome Tannis was still inside off and did the same to her.

That's when I saw it, on Tannis' left arm were Siren tattoos that flowed a sliverish-white just like Steele and Angel's Siren tattoos.

'Oh yeah, Steele, she probably died by now.'

I guess Tannis doesn't need to remain here now. I touched her on the arm and she was immediately teleported back to her 'cabin'.

I rejoined the others in a flash and stared at the 'human' form of The Destroyer, it was examining itself and clenching its fists as if experimenting with its new body.

This is bad, this is very very bad.
