Chapter 121 - Chaos In The Northern Sector

Autor note : Hey, I just wanted to ask if any of you are watching the One Punch Man anime, specifically season 3. I am—and honestly, I can only say I'm extremely disappointed with this season.

The quality and the storytelling are completely different from the manga, which is so much better. Damn, my heart hurts as a fan seeing the anime get ruined like this.

Allen glanced at Svetlana. "Come on, let's help them," he said. Svetlana nodded, raising her weapon and opening fire on the Licker.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

But the Licker dodged every shot, its movements sharp and erratic as it weaved through the trees, easily avoiding the bullets.

"Tsk… smart little freak," Svetlana muttered.

A moment later, the monster lunged at her from behind—but Svetlana reacted instantly. She spun around, ducking low, and with one swift motion of her blade, she sliced the Licker clean in half. Blood splattered across her body, painting her from head to toe.

"Great… looks like I'll need a long shower after this," she said with a hint of irritation before raising her weapon again.

Bang!

She blew apart the creature's remaining head.

The police around them stood frozen, shocked. They couldn't believe a woman that beautiful could fight with such brutal efficiency.

Meanwhile, on Allen's side—

"Leon, down!" Allen shouted.

Leon ducked on reflex just as Allen opened fire on a Licker that had nearly taken Leon's head off. The shot missed its vital spot, hitting the creature's torso instead—but Allen didn't stop. He unloaded round after round, forcing the Licker back as bullets tore into its body, slowing it down.

With the monster staggered and barely moving, Allen switched to his grenade launcher.

BOOM!

The Licker exploded into pieces.

"Thanks, Allen," Leon said, relieved—because without him, he knew he wouldn't still be alive.

"Don't thank me yet, Leon. There's still one more out there," Allen replied.

Svetlana walked over to them. "Did any of you see where the other one went?" she asked.

Everyone shook their heads.

Realizing the situation was turning bad fast, Marvin made a call. "Edward, Brad—if you spot that monster, you're cleared to open fire," he ordered into the radio.

The helicopter's searchlight activated, sweeping across the treetops and the nearby buildings.

Seconds later, Edward spotted movement inside one of the structures. He leaned forward, eyes wide. The Licker was inside—feeding on the body of a fallen officer.

"I've got visual. The target's inside the building," Edward reported.

"If you've got a clean shot, take it," Marvin responded.

"Roger that."

The minigun spun up.

BRRRRRRRRRRRT!!!

"Hell yeah! Die, you ugly freak!" Edward yelled as the stream of 20mm rounds tore through the building.

Hundreds of bullets shredded the Licker, reducing it to scattered, pulped chunks under the sheer force of the minigun's fire.

"Alright, everyone, now we just need to figure out how to power this place back on," Marvin said. "But stay sharp. There could still be more monsters crawling around inside."

From the looks of it, there were several spider webs that hadn't been burned yet. Marvin began regrouping everyone to divide the tasks more efficiently.

"Allen, can you assist Kevin and Leon with this?" Marvin asked, clearly aware of Allen's skill with computers and mechanics thanks to his company background.

"Yeah, no problem," Allen replied.

He headed inside the building with Kevin, Leon, Svetlana, and Rebecca following close behind.

"Hey, do any of you know where the control station is located in this place?" Allen asked.

"Well, if we're heading there, we're gonna have to get past those spider webs—and that's not exactly safe," Kevin warned.

Allen glanced at Leon, the only one equipped with a semi-automatic sniper rifle.

"Leon, mind doing us a favor and giving those spiders a quick makeover? Preferably the explosive kind. And hey, don't panic — if they wake up and try to eat your face, we'll step in. Promise." Allen said with a slight smirk, half-teasing.

Leon could only nod, silently praying that Allen and the others would actually keep him alive after this. "Alright… just make sure you cover me," he said before moving to a higher vantage point.

"Remember—go for the head!" Allen called out.

Leon nodded back. "Okay, I'll do my best."

A moment later, he opened fire.

Bang!Bang!Bang!

Leon's shots were clean and precise—his reputation as the department's top rookie wasn't just for show. Each trigger pull landed straight in a spider's head, dropping them instantly. Dozens of the creatures began falling from the webs.

But soon, several spiders started crawling toward their position.

"Well, the kid's a hell of a shot," Allen said with a smirk. "Alright, let's not let him steal the spotlight. Take down the ones closing in!"

He raised his weapon and started firing, and the others followed suit, clearing out the spiders in their path. Kevin, refusing to be outdone, stepped forward as well and began shooting with renewed determination.

Rebecca joined in, firing at several of the mutated spiders with her submachine gun. She grimaced; the sight of those creatures—once ordinary spiders—twisted into horrific abominations by the T-virus, made her stomach churn. Svetlana beside her did the same, mowing down more of the spider mutants and even a few infected dogs that charged in her direction.

Bang!Bang!Bang!

"Alright, let's move. I think we're clear for now—the path to the control room looks safe enough," Allen said, convinced the immediate area was under control, with only a few lingering zombies left behind.

The others nodded, and they advanced toward their destination.

When they finally arrived at the Control Room—the hub for the facility's electrical systems—Kevin couldn't help but speak up.

"This place is a damn mess…" he muttered. The room was littered with mutilated corpses, torn apart so badly that organs were scattered across the floor.

"Alright, do me a favor and put a bullet in those corpses' heads first. Trust me—you don't want any of them pulling a 'surprise respawn' and taking a bite out of you," Allen said.

Kevin and Leon could only swallow hard after hearing what Allen said. Meanwhile, Allen checked the condition of the electrical system in the room.

"Well, looks like we got lucky—nothing's damaged here," Allen said as he pressed a button and pulled a lever to activate the dam's electrical system.

In an instant, a surge of high-voltage electricity shot through the power lines, electrocuting the giant spiders nesting there until they were completely fried. Even their eggs were hit by the current, cooked to perfection.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the facility—at the northern water disposal area where the officers were still fighting off the zombies—the lights suddenly turned on. For the first time, they could clearly see just how many zombies and mutated creatures had been hiding in the darkness.

"Alright, let's move. We're done here, so we should regroup with the others," Allen said. The team agreed and headed back to Marvin's position.

"First team, advance! Use heavy weapons—don't save your ammo! Wipe out every last one of those monsters!" Marvin ordered.

Bang!... Bang!... Bang!...

Meanwhile, Allen and Rebecca stayed in the back, treating several officers who'd been bitten by zombies.

"Ahhhh!!!"

A few officers screamed in pain as other medics dragged them back to safety.

"Set them down here—I need to check their wounds," Rebecca said, immediately getting to work.

Svetlana held the rear, firing at any monsters that tried to push toward the medics. Kevin and Leon had already returned to the front line, adding more firepower to the assault.

But then—suddenly—the ground rumbled.

BOOM!

A massive explosion erupted at the front.

"Team One! Report! What the hell just happened out there?!" Marvin shouted, not far from where Allen was standing.

"Sir, we—we ran into some kind of giant monster out there! I don't even know what it is, but it looks like… a giant worm," one of the squad leaders said, his hands shaking.

Gunfire and screams kept echoing through the area. Several officers were killed instantly—others were grabbed and eaten alive by the creature.

Marvin finally started to understand why Chief Brian had authorized the use of heavy weapons for this mission. With monsters like this involved, the operation was far more dangerous than expected. If they failed here, the entire city would be in danger.

"Alright, fall back or find cover! I don't want any more casualties!" Marvin ordered, preparing to rethink their approach for taking down the massive creature blocking their path.

"Understood!"

But retreating wasn't easy. The giant worm could burst out of the ground at any moment. Officers kept firing at it, but its body—tough as reinforced steel—barely reacted to their bullets. Hurting a monster like that wasn't going to leave so much as a scratch on it.

Seeing the situation getting worse by the minute, Allen decided he couldn't just stand by. He needed to help the people trapped out there with that giant worm.

"Rebecca, Svetlana and I are going in to back them up. You stay here and take care of the wounded," Allen said.

Rebecca nodded. "Leave it to me—and stay safe, okay?" she said before giving Allen a quick kiss on the cheek.

Allen smiled, then immediately took off.

"Don't worry. I'll keep an eye on him," Svetlana said to Rebecca before running after Allen.

"Hey! Allen! Svetlana! Where do you think you're going?" Marvin shouted. He was already struggling to think of a way to deal with the creature, and now two people were charging forward.

"Lieutenant Marvin, relax. Allen probably has a plan to take that thing down," Rebecca said.

"Oh? He does?" Marvin replied. He had been planning to call the helicopter back for another strike, but there were still too many officers trapped out there.

"Just trust him, Lieutenant," Rebecca said firmly.

"…Alright," Marvin replied, realizing he didn't have much choice but to believe in his team.

Not long after, Allen and Svetlana arrived at the main gate, and the situation there was absolutely chaotic. The entire ground was filled with deep holes—it honestly looked like the earth had been dug up by an excavator. Only the areas reinforced with concrete were still intact.

"Allen, Svetlana, what are you two doing here? Weren't you supposed to be in the back earlier?" Kevin asked.

"Well, I came to help kill that monster, obviously," Allen replied.

"Do you have a plan, Allen?" Leon asked. His face and clothes were filthy, covered in dirt from rolling around to dodge the worm's attacks.

"Yeah, I've got a plan," Allen said as he opened his bag and pulled out several explosives along with a detonator.

"You're going to use those to blow the monster up? But right now, that won't be easy. The thing always hides underground after attacking, and it's hard to predict where it'll pop out next," Kevin said.

"Well, that's true, but no matter what kind of monster it is, it has to come out to eat something, right? Let's see if I'm correct," Allen said. Not long after, he tossed a zombie corpse into one of the holes, and sure enough, the monster immediately surged upward to devour it.

The officers hiding nearby panicked the moment they saw the creature surface again. They opened fire and threw several grenades at the giant worm, but the monster quickly retreated back underground to protect itself.

"Okay, can you guys help me bring some of those corpses or zombies over here and attach these bombs to their bodies?" Allen asked the others.

Hearing his plan, everyone agreed. Leon and Kevin quickly moved out to gather the nearby bodies and bring them to Allen.

Leon, who was currently dragging a zombie corpse, couldn't help but feel a bit impressed with how quickly Allen was able to think up solutions. He felt like he could learn a lot from Allen—especially if he ever ended up facing a similar situation in the future. And deep down, he had a bad feeling that even if they completed the mission tonight, something like this would happen again someday.

After they finished attaching the explosives to the zombie bodies, Allen spoke up.

"Alright, are you all set? Don't forget to get ready to take cover. Everyone else, have your weapons ready!"

"We're good—one, two, three!" Kevin and Leon said with a nod.

Moments later, they tossed the zombie corpses into several different holes. It didn't take long before multiple giant worms burst out to devour the bait.

"Damn, there are three of them?" Kevin muttered, startled.

But Allen didn't waste time worrying about it. The moment all the corpses were swallowed, he pressed the detonator.

BOOM!

A massive explosion erupted beneath the ground, shaking the area and sending flames shooting out of the holes.
